09 trans in earier model question?
i havent heard anyone say whether or not the ppf changes sides with this swap. Does anyone know?
I also wonder if the ppf DOESNT swap sides then how much better the trans would be?

wow,
i guess i am the only one that reads this stuff and retains stuff..
from what i gather.
the 09 is a direct bolt on.. the ppf is on the other side.
to mean that is the 09 tranny fits just fine with the pre 09 ppf and exhaust..
so the 09 ppf and exhaust are different..
so the question is does the tranny solve the problem, or is the ppf on the other side we cant use, solve the problem?
just thinking out loud!
bet it is a bit of both.

OK Power Plant Frame...
There is no change from the 08 (Last Series I RX-8 Manual Trans) to the latest Manual 09 RX-8.
The 09 Auto (6 speed) has a different PPF Part Number Listing to the Manual.
The Series I for Australia uses the same PPF for Manual and Auto Trans (we only had the 4 speed Auto).
This would also apply to the US 4 speed Auto and Manual using the same PPF.
Series II we now have the 6 speed Auto with it's own PPF like the US.
Hope that makes sense.

PPF on Series II
The PPF on the Series II still bolts onto the trans and diff housings on the Left Hand side of the Car...the same as Series I.
It is the exact same PPF.

It can be a little strange when looking at the part diagrams which are always extremely accurate...
Scott, I just went out and checked my car (09 man) with a torch and it looks like the Parts Manual.
The part numbers are the same for S1 and S2 manuals from about 2007 ~ and I think the original (03) superceeds to the new one..F151-39-710K ( F goes to a G at a chassis # change, the J (2007)goes to a K as used in S1 (2007) and S2 Manual Trans.

The exhaust system...
Yes there have been changes, they both still have a 3 piece system (Genuine)..
The Cat and pipe has changed, but IMO only because there are changes to the O2 sensor...perhaps a more reliable, slightly larger and better quality O2 Sensor.
The Cat back pipe has changed part numbers , But again the style and look/design is the same.
Gaskets or O rings are the same, they also have the same 6 rubber exhaust system hangers for both series.
The rear Silencer/muffler has changed also, and don't forget Mazda made the Outlet (Chrome ones) larger in diameter (Fake appearance only).
That change alone also constitutes a change in part number over the old, and it still could probably fit the Series I ...

No problem OD, Happy to help anyone with a parts inquirey...
I was thinking of starting an RX-8 Parts Help THREAD (or any Mazda), or for RX-8 owners, with diagrams, do you think it would work and be a good idea?..
They ask, I supply the info, to their question...type of thing.
I think I have covered ALL the mechanical changes to the Series II in my thread, apart from the obvious BODY or Cosmetic changes...
