'08 Wheels on an '05
Hey guys, I need your help pretty quick. I'm sorry, but I wasn't able to do a full search of the forums because I'm posting from work.
I'm buying an '05 RX-8 from a local dealership provided that they can get stock wheels onto the '05. They had a used '08 on the lot (or at a different dealership) and they said they'd swap the wheels.
They called me earlier and said that the 08 wheels wouldn't fit. I told them that was fine, but they'd need to knock another $1500 off the price.
They called back an hour or so later and said they got the wheels to fit, and that the techs who were doing the swap originally were Chevy techs and they had their Mazda techs (the dealership has a Chevy and Mazda garage) got the wheels to fit.
Now I'm worried that the wheels don't fit and I'm asking for problems. Could someone please confirm that the 2008 Wheels will fit on a 2005 model?
Thanks a ton

Sounds like the dealer is pulling some "Shenanigans". Like they didn't want to put the newer wheels on the car after all.
The lug pattern is the same on all the models. 5 x 114mm
Only thing different is the AT Base model has 16 inch rims. These will NOT fit on any Manual Trans car. The brake rotors are to big on the MT.
Unless they were taking the AT base model rims and trying to put them on a MT car,, yes there would be an issue.
Chevy tech/Mazda tech. If they can't put a set of wheels on a car they should not be in the shop working on the cars period. I would have some major reserves about them ever working on a car I bought there. Though really that would be enough for me to say GOODBYE!

wow...big time shenanigans.
As everybody has already stated - All rx8's have the same bolt pattern - the only time you would run into a problem is if you're trying to fit the automatic tranny wheels (16 inch) onto a manual tranny rx8.
Punch someone at the dealership for trying to BS you...

Yeah, sounds about right to me too. I suspected shenanigans when they said the Chevy tech said they wouldn't fit.
I'm guessing that they were just testing my resolve. But I wanted to make sure that the 08 Wheels actually fit. I just assumed they did yesterday when I accepted the deal.

Bummer, just heard back from the dealership and they are 16" wheels. I told the dealership to either find stock 18s or knock the cost off the price of the car.
My guess is I wont be driving this one home tonight. I'll have to fall back on the half-dozen other cars I've been keeping my eyes on

Who knows, maybe they will knock the 1500 off the price that I want and I'll just go buy some new rims in the near future. It's in their hands now.

Wait! ................. Wait!
Listen, read carefully. Its not the mechanics. He is talking to a salesman.
Its typical bullshit. Salesmen bullshit.
Whats wrong with the current wheels? Oversized 20" gaudy hip hop wheels or what?

Yeah, the current wheels are fugly chromey things. I'm not sure how long this link will last, but here they are:

The car is nice, the price is "ok".
I definitely called the salesguy back, I told him not even to bother if the wheels weren't 18" and he told me that they were for sure, 16" wheels that he was trying to put onto the car.
Like another poster said, there are lots of cars. For the price of buying this car (at the same price) and put non-fugly wheels on it, I can go pick up a very clean RX-8 Touring or Grand Touring at my neighborhood Carmax.
