05 rx8 AT starter swap

Hey everyone, I have been having start issues with my 05 rx8 shrinks AT. I just got a full rebuild on my 1.3L engine, and a brand new red top optima battery. Sadly my starter can't keep up!

at first I had a stock starter, pulled it and checked the flywheel while I was down there. I bought and installed a reman from Denso (part number 280-4309) and after a short period of time the hot start wait time got longer and longer. Currently at 30ish minutes!

I just bought a starter for a 2011 1.3L R2, installed it easily but I went to start it and I got a nasty metal-metal sound. It started very quickly though! I don't believe the starter is pushing the gear out far enough into the fly wheel because I took it off again and the outter rim of the fly wheel teeth were shining when I put my light to it.

does anyone know if I can fix this or if I should send the starter back ( Remy WD 99757 1.3L R2)
if I send it back, anyone know which starter I should get? Thanks in advance!

Well the later automatic trans cars were 6-spd vs your automatic 4-spd. They use different starters. That same problem was discussed before starting here:

The correct upgraded starter for yours is Mazda Part No. N3H2-18-400R-0B. It or any equivalent starter should gave a 13 tooth gear and 2.0kW motor
