You can save gas by using N!

Put your car to neutral at the stoplight. It can save you a bit of gas.

D at stoplight = .55gal/hour fuel
N at stoplight = .48gal/hour fuel

Won't that cause the tranny to overwork? In the long run, could it warrant a tranny overhaul and offset whatever gas savings u might've saved?

To do what? Put the car in netural at stops?

Now if the OP was talking about coasting in netural with engine off or flat towing with the engine off(Too save gas ) thats a different story.

Dont know if Mazda still do it in the RX-8 owners manual........but

In the owners manuals of the JDM version Eunos Cosmo (90-95) + JDM Mazda RX-7 auto (92-02). Mazda tell owners to put the shifter into "N" at traffic lights or during extended stops.

Have been popping my box into "N" since the day I purchased my 03-model.

Had a Eunos Cosmo for 6-years now & been doing the same to it. ZERO negative effects

I have an MT. My '8, by definition, is always in 'neutral' at stoplights.
