You can save gas by using N!

Put your car to neutral at the stoplight. It can save you a bit of gas.

D at stoplight = .55gal/hour fuel
N at stoplight = .48gal/hour fuel

How did you get those numbers? Cobb AP?

tajabaho1 09-08-2008 01:39 PM

he has a computer OBDII tap

Silver_Surfer 09-08-2008 04:56 PM

wOW! Thats a lot! Maybe I should start coasting up to trafic lights in "N" more.

rotarygod 09-08-2008 04:58 PM

I used to put my car in "off" at stoplights.

I dont see how its wear and tear just by putting the car in neutral.

Clavius 09-09-2008 12:15 PM

I save that much gas just by taking a HUGE Dump before leaving for work.. its true.. oh yes its true! :yesnod:

Acoustix 09-09-2008 12:17 PM

Won't that cause the tranny to overwork? In the long run, could it warrant a tranny overhaul and offset whatever gas savings u might've saved?

To do what? Put the car in netural at stops?:bsflag:

Now if the OP was talking about coasting in netural with engine off or flat towing with the engine off(Too save gas:lol: ) thats a different story.

tajabaho1 09-10-2008 11:54 AM

no, he just meant by putting the car in N while at stops cus it will idle lower than in D

I think

rite??

rollerbldes 09-10-2008 08:03 PM

Right. Stoplight appears three time in my post.

05rex8 09-10-2008 08:06 PM

not driving saves lots of gas too

Dont know if Mazda still do it in the RX-8 owners manual........but

In the owners manuals of the JDM version Eunos Cosmo (90-95) + JDM Mazda RX-7 auto (92-02). Mazda tell owners to put the shifter into "N" at traffic lights or during extended stops.

Have been popping my box into "N" since the day I purchased my 03-model.

Had a Eunos Cosmo for 6-years now & been doing the same to it. ZERO negative effects

I have an MT. My '8, by definition, is always in 'neutral' at stoplights. ;)
