What is the best way to make an automatic 8 faster?

I bought an automatic 8 a few months ago. I am not happy with the take-off at all. Very slow. What's the best way to improve that? Thanks.

Wait until your warranty is up--at that point Turbocharge it with the RE Amemiya Turbo, trade it in on a 6spd, or trade it in on the upcoming SMG or 5 spd auto hi-power RX8 that is 'on the way'. Anything you do to it now would be for aesthetics only, intake/exhaust on these cars yield very few benefits, even on the 6-spds. If I were you I would not focus on accelerative performance--suspension mods would benefit if you are into auto crossing; the auto RX8 is an acceptable autocross car.

Lighten her up: wheels, pulleys, battery, exhaust(could save alot of weight with titanium), brake rotors, reducing rotational and any other mass would help. But it ain't cheap unless you start ripping out seats, audio system etc (which i'm sure isn't what your after)

Do you launch while power-braking? Hold the brake pedal down, Rev the engine as high as you can...leggo the brake pedal.

Burn-out!

Did you try a search? Don't expect your automatic RX-8 to lay waste to other sports cars. You'll be very disappointed. Read this old thread.

Do a search or look at the bottom of the page under "Similar Threads". This topic has been discussed at least 3 times. Run a search before you post. It's dangerous not to.

Remove 1000 lbs that should make it pretty quick.

^ and then push it off a cliff.

Or you can wait for some sort of FI for the auto.

I'm not trying to be harsh on you here but if you aren't happy with it, you shouldn't have bought it. Since you want to have more practical daily drivable power, nitrous is out. Intakes and exhausts won't get you hardly anything. Your best option will probably be a positive displacement supercharger. Hymee is working on one now that uses a twin screw supercharger. If you just want more power but don't care about winning any races then you could also look into the Pettit supercharger kit. Anything you do is going to be pricey so don't expect a cheap solution. You can have what you want. How much you are willing to pay to get it is up to you.

Why is nitrous out of the question for a daily driver...? If all you want is a little extra kick once in a while do you think the nitrous will dammage the auto tranny? I would like to think that the slushbox wouldnt trun into gray soup if you did, say a 50hp shot once in a while; however it will not provide constant hp gains like a turbo system.

He doesn't want more kick every once in a while. He wants mroe every time he has to get the car moving. How long do you think a nitrous tank would last if it sprayed constantly? Nitrous isn't practical in this application. It is strictly only temporary. A supercharger or turbo isn't.

Didn't you drive the thing before you bought it?
You would have had to have done some research on the 8 and would be aware that the auto was lower in hp than the manual........... no alarm bells rang in your head?

Does anyone know of any way to beef up the auto tranny. I've seen kits offered for your typical american car, but do they offer anything for the RX8? Also, do you think that the 50 hp nitrous shot will dammage the tranny?

You can trade the automatic Rx8 for a manual Rx8. Thats how you make YOUR Rx8 faster than what it is now. But youstill wont have a fast car either way so...

I mostly bought the car for the way that it looks. However, I would also like to make it faster. Yes, I did know that the manual had more hp and was faster than the auto. Yes, I also noticed it when I test drove it as well. Doesn't mean I can't make it go faster later!! I hear many people say just do this, just do that and you will gain more speed. Look at all the posts and you will see people all over the board on what to do to the car. I am not looking at racing, just something to give it a decent amount of power off the line. Anyone hear that has an auto knows how it feels when people always ask, "Is it fast?" My only answer, "It handles well."

So, if I said that I didn't like the tires, what are the best tires that I should get for it to handle better, would you still have that response? Unless you are completely satisfied with a car, you shouldn't buy it? Then why is everybody spending so much money to change a car that everyone should be happy with?

I still gave you an alternative didn't I? Supercharger. At least I didn't say sell it and buy a standard. Tires are cheap and easy to change. Significantly changing an engine's power output is not.

If your simply looking for a tad more kick off the line.. try getting a torque converter. I don't think anyone currently makes one, so I guess you may have to contact a manufacturer to see what they can do. Level 10 is one company that comes to mind.

I thought it was obvious it was a joke. I was going to tell him to drive it downhill with a tail wind, but he's probably tried that.

To answer your question, I guess it didn't accomplish anything except make me giggle when I wrote it. Possibly quite like this contribution -

- or people telling him to trade it in on a manual.

If you or mdwitty were offended, I apologize, but you gotta lighten up.
