I just seen a dyno on rx8web where they said the 8 has no limiter. Did I miss something?

If I'm not mistaken the auto has a limiter ~127-130mph or so.

Wouldn't it make more sense if that were the auto's top speed?

Taller gears + less power + wind resistance.....

I would have got the results and times 2 nights ago if not for the undercover cop coming to bust the scene.
Hope to get the results sometime this week.

Btw the speed limit for JDM 8's is 187km/h but it will vary by a bit depending on the road conditions.(up-slope/downslope)

Mine already has the ecu reflashed and last month after testing i got 225km/h, was aiming for 235km/h and it has lots more potential to go further but got blocked by cars on the freeway.

Hi Sgrenesis,

Have been considering the RE turbo upgrade, however just wanted to know more from your experience with it...

Obviously the cost is one thing,.. esentially what I'm looking for is better acceleration and I'm not so hard core to want high boost etc.. asuming the basic package for the AT by RE and for normal driving; will I need to be spending a whole lot more upgrading one part to another and another just to get the tuning right??

I'm basically looking for a comfortable ride with more horse power but do not want the hassle of sending the car into the workshop again and again for tune ups because the modification causes so many problems... you get my drift? I've been there and done that n its quite frustrating and not to mention costly!

Please advice. Thanks

Dave

Dude it really depends on how hard you want to go with it. If you are goin for track then let me say that you have to do lots more upgrading like cooling parts.
If not then its definitely a much better ride, other than the turbo lag the rest is perfect. The boost kicks in at 2k rpm so you get the power early but try to get at least a ATF cooler, change your oil and atf fluid regularly preferably every 5k. So far no problems other than the stupid steering lock problem that lots of members face.

Sgrenesis,

Thanks for the input.

I'm no hardcore racer , so I just wan to enjoy more torque and power with the turbo. I'm sure I'll end up spendin more after the upgrade, but I wan to clarify that the upgrade works as it comes and that I won;t end up schanging more stuff just to get it working properly....

BTW whats this about the steering lock problem??

Please advice thanks.

Yea, sgrenesis, please elaborate more on the steering lock thingy, I just bought the RE auto turbo kit, will arrive sometime in september or october, trying to get it freight instead of shipped so it will be faster. Please tell me what i should look out for after installing it. Im afraid i might run into overheating probs like you. you know, Malaysia is the same as SG, without turbo itself my car is about 100c for water and oil temp, need to do something about it. Did you blow your engine at all? Please advice thank you.

Hehehe... of course i didnt blow my engine if not i wouldnt be posting.

Btw i had the steering lock before i installed the kit and lots of members are facing the same problem, supposedly it happens roughly after 40k range but dont take my word for it. Not all people will get it as it depends.

Things to take note will be front bumper. Some aftermarket front bumpers will have a smaller nose and that will enough space for the intercooler but will block quite alot of air going to the radiator. If you are running on stock bumper i would advice you to just change your plastic nose to a wire mesh or you can just DIY and drill holes in the original one. (btw if you look at nose, the top section is all sealed up)

If you worried bout the oil just let me know, i may have a solution.

Sgrenesis,

Sorry but you still haven't mentioned what this steering lock problem is about? Care to give more details..

I'm actually asking cause just recently my power steering seems to be givin wierd problems. It always happens when the car is just starting up cold. IF I turn the steering wheel it shudders and goes haywire for a bit before working normally again. Its happened everyday for the past week already...Is this what you are talking about?? cause my car is almost 40 k now.

BTW, I've changed my front abumper to the autobahn kit, shoud have a large enough air intake you think??

Yup its the same problem all right, mine is much worse than yours. At first it starts out with the shudders and after doin the full lock thingy its solved but now it has to reach at least 85 degress for the oil temp thereabouts before it goes off. Let mw tell you dont mess with it, cause i took a turn at 50 km/h on a filter lane and the the wheel locked 4 times while turning. Try to get the sensor fixed cause it will help but before that dont try your luck at the bends, it can cost you.

As for the front bumper think i have to research abit on that.

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, beginning to regret choosing this car already. Hmmm .Its turning just past 2 years n already changed engine mounts, ignition coils ...now more stuff. Guess I better hold off the turbo first...

As far as your steering problem goes I am under the impression that it is the actuator on the rack that is wearing out and sticking. I deal with actuators on some of the equipment that I work on and they do things like lock at given points and operate intermittently.
All they are is an electric motor that operates and output shaft that connects to what ever you want to operate/move. Ours are on hand controls and are computer activated.
There are calibration settings that have to be done on our equipment to maintain optimum operational performance.
I am not sure what and how exactly Mazda uses this setup but I think it is an ASSIST mode
with the operation of the steering,, as in Power Assist. I would think the engineers at Mazda would make the system FAILSAFE as to if the actuator did fail it would just be like "manual" steering. I fit is locking up around corners I would say you have a major SAFETY problem. I would be taking it to the dealer ASAP.
Is not the steering covered under the Drivetrain Warranty?

For autos we can only purchase them through a parallel importer almost all of them are offering only 1 year warranty and as for those manuals that got from the dealer it has either 3 year or 60000km warranty. mine has already 60000+ k

I do agree with you about the thing failing cause it seems I are running without power steering but the funny thing is, if you turn left it will shudder but when you turn left its very tight, locks up and seems like no power steering.

Alot of members are facing the same problems and symptons. I am real scared cause to change the dam rack will cost a bomb. Its more like a "luck" thing cause some have changed the sensor and it was solved but not so lucky ones have changed both sensor and another item and the problem didnt go away. I do agree that mazda should do a worldwide recall for that problem.

sgrenesis i wanna confirm something with you, did you have to send in your ECU to do the reflash? after you bought the RE turbo kit? or they gave you a brand new 1? because in my case now they asking me to send in my ECU then they will give me another reflashed 1. Please clarify if possible. and if its not too difficult could you kindly list the things that is included in the kit? because im paying alot of money for it as i believe you did, so the last thing i would want is they short changing me.
