Rattling noise when at a stop...

Hey Guys, I've got an 05 AT about to hit 70,000 miles. When I come to a stop something starts to rattle, when I start moving again the noise immediately goes away. The weird thing is if I put the car in neutral at a stop the rattling noise stops immediately. As soon as I put it back in drive at a stop it starts up again. I do have the Sprint lowering springs along with mazdaspeed shocks, brand new Yokohama yk520 tires with only 200 miles or so on them, the rattle was there before the new tires too. Has anyone else experienced this or can someone point me in the right direction on what to check? I'll have to check but I don't think it will rattle in park either because when I start the car in the mornings it doesn't do it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The reason it does it when you're at a stop and in gear, is because of the low engine RPMs. I have a rattle that I haven't been able to track down in the rear deck that only pipes up during those times. The short of it is that there's excess vibration when at a low rpm and if something can rattle, it will rattle then.

I have the same issue. Heard that it could be the Motor Mounts to possibly the CAT. I'm looking into getting my car looked at completely since I've been in a accident. I am mentioning this to them and asking for a full write up of what was done.

It probably is the motor mounts because I used to have the same problem with my AT. Once I got them replaced, the rattle went away and it was so much better.

I appreciate the help guys, unfortunately I have already had my motor mounts replaced once so hopefully they aren't bad AGAIN. That would suck. I'm going to keep searching for the source of the rattle as much as I can but you're probably right on motor mounts. Is it common for these to go bad a lot? I know a lot of people have had to get them replaced, maybe I need to get better quality mounts?

No I didn't or at least not that I'm aware of. I'll have to check on those. Thanks

Check your heat shields. At the CAT and tranny.

Razz1 might be right.I've heard of that issue before. Also, and I know you may feel this is off the mark, but I did read all you said and you never really said where you think the area of the car the rattle is coming from. I remember someone else on here having an issue and it turned out to be the rear deck loose...........over the speakers. See if you can take a look at that or have someone sit back there and when something does rattle, then have them place their hand on it. It's worth a shot.......if I'm not way off base.
