newbie here, got some questions

i got my rx-8 a a few months ago and i want to get some performance mods to it.
the first thing i want to get is a catback. i was looking at the racing beat cat but i recently talked to my friend who has a rx-7 and he says that i wont like it; the sound will be weak and its not any different than the stock one. I would like some opinions as to what would be a good catback or if the racingbeat one is good enough already.

Your not really going to get any noticable power gains from any of them. It is all about sound preference. Do a search for exhausts and listen to some of the sound clips people have posted or try and get to listen to other people's exhausts in person to make your decision.

RB catback is best one IMO. It sounds like stock for the first 100-1000 miles but it gets better and better every day and I love it.

Why not go with the MS exhaust? Sounds better I believe; and you keep the Mazda warranty, if that matters to you.. That or new wheels will be my next mod. Well, actually, first mod..

as the others have said there is little power to be had from a new exhaust, its mainly for looks and sound.

about the racing beat exhaust, i have it and i really enjoy it. when i first put it on i was so disappointed because i thought it did really sound that much different, but over time the sound really richened up. i think it retains the sound of the car but makes it a little deeper and i love it. the sound really has developed over time. its sounds quiet enough to drive through a neighbor hood but a really nice sound at wot.

you could go to the regional section and see if anyone near you has an exhaust that you could listen to because sometimmes the sound clip dont do them justice.

also having an 06 wont really make a difference in most things

you all are a great help, im looking for for a good sounding exhaust over performance (i'll get to other stuff later). i think im going to a few different places and check out different sounds at different events. and while im thinking about it, does getting MS mods not void the warranty? im 17 and my dad is killing me about voiding it. i cant blame him but i still want the good mods.

Getting MS parts doesn't void the warranty. That's why a lot of 8 owners go with MS. As I am soon..

Good mods? Mazdaspeed has great mods IMO..

Pretty much if you buy MS parts and then have them installed at a dealer you'll get the MS warranty, though I'm sure if you install them (or someone else) the dealer may possibly try to void it if something is wrong afterwards the good ole "They installed it improperly..." b.s. line. I'd personaly buy it online (since its cheaper!!!) then find a decent dealer and have them install it. Most of the MS parts shouldnt really take more than a hour to install.

yeah i know they dont but it was for the overall thought that none of the MS products void the warranty.
