Question Electric Supercharger and other Forced Induction

I am starting this thread because everyone with an AT seems to have a question about forced induction systems for our car. Everyone wants a little "go faster".

From what I've been reading in the AT-spec mods section, traditional belt-driven SC and Turbos won't work for an AT tranny.

Can someone answer why?

I've been doing some searching and I have come across this "alternative" mod and similar offerings:
http://www.electricsupercharger.com/Electric SuperCharger

Does anyone know anything about this technology? Implied control mechanisms? etc?

Last thing about induction, I've been reading some information on this site BrightGreen and they say cold-air intakes are bad for gas mileage. True or Not?

Has anyone ever added acetone to their gas which is also mentioned on the site.

e rams arent worth the money. they are pretty lame in general and arent really effective.

for me personally my mpg went up with my CAI. i have heard of others claiming this to but i dont know if there is any definitive evidence but i personally had a 2 mpg increase.

i would say dont put acetone in the tank, i have no idea what this could do but most likely this will have a bad effect on a rotary engine.

Belt-driven superchargers and turbos both work on the AT.

Thanks for the info. Now I just have to wait for someone to build a SC worth a damn for an 8.

While I'm at it, I've never gotten more than 200 miles out of a tank of gas. Anyone have any suggestions to improve my mileage? ergo. the brightgreen question.

First of all, there is a turbo for the AT. You just need an ECU that will work with the turbo for tuning...*cough* interceptor-x *cough*. As for supercharger... there really isnt a SC out there that is being sold for the 8 (hopefully to come soon) and there is no reason why it wouldnt work on the AT. I know that Pettit Racing in south florida has a SC being built and ready to be released soon.. waiting to hear the gains on that puppy... if its worth it... definetely gonna put it on MY AT 8.

You cant just bolt on turbo/SC kits designed to run on the manual RX8 into an AT RX8.
The problem is not so much the fact its an auto but more the engine type. The earlier ATs have a 4 port engine (as do the 5 speed manual Japanese domestic models) and the 6 speed manuals are a 6 port motor. The 6 port motors have additional injectors and will flow more fuel than the 4 port models. Most if not all of the aftermarket turbo kits are designed to run 6 port models for this reason.

I post with some experience here. I have been working on turbocharging my 4 port 5 speed manual for the best part of 6 months. The turbo part was easy. Upgrading the injectors and adding additional injectors to get enough fuel in, combined with getting an ECU to play ball with all this has been and still is a nightmare.

i know the greddy kit actually come with a blocking plate that effectively make a 6 port into a 4 port.

also i belive the 4 port actually come with large injectors than the 6 port. but still you would need to upgrade them along with what ever you are doing

Yep, when my CAI went on, I also starting getting better gas mileage. The CAI's do sound VERY nice however and I LOVE to rev the car. Any gas mileage loss may be due to driving more aggressively.
