I was not sure where to post this thread but decided that only a/t owners would be interested and those m/t people would avoid coming here.

Jeff left my home yesterday after a two day install session on my 04, 4port, super charged a/t. Since I was first (super charged a/t), there were no starting points except those from Cobb.

Jeff can tell you the process and I can tell you the results:
1. My 8 now has a repeatable idle.

2. Some how he must have also added a new a/t when I was not looking because it now shifts like a new a/t and does it all the way to 8700RPM (it still does not like to shift above that)

3. Even under full boost there are positive shifts - no dragging or slipping.

4. While I have not yet measured it, we know that the gas consumption has decreased significantly. While gas consumption is not something I am worried about it would be a concern to others.

5. Jeff was not after power gains (yet) and just wanted a safe, conservative tune that was consistent. I do believe that he has achieved it.

There are a few areas of concern that need addressing but some of the concerns may be of a mechanical nature and over the next couple of weeks I will be looking into them. Jeff will also be asking Cobb for some additional releases of tuning areas that were not yet open to him and seem to be needed on my a/t.

I want to be sure to point out that Jeff went the extra mile with me so that I understood exactly what was happening and why. He also went thru the process of passing me new tunes.

Yep, check with Jeff. He has flashed at least one and has tunes depending on your mods.

The Cobb AccessPORT is now available for the supercharged 4-port automatic.

 

This is really great news to those that are AT's and Fi'd.. After the turbo was installed I had to learn what the nuanaces were...

My biggest gripe was the "cat save" feature on decel. pop pop pop pop BANG !
This is the one thing i will not miss.

 

freakin' great news PHIL! - thanks for posting the updates, any plans to put your baby on the dyno? i'd like to see the hp/tq curve - also, you mentioned Jeff has already tuned a 6port AT - any results from that tune?

I can't wait to get my AP - damn shame i gotta wait...

 

Officially my 8 will go on the dyno late next month (as soon as I get a dyno day set up). You will have to ask Jeff or Easy_E1 how the 6 port a/t is doing. All I have is 'hear say" right now.

also, how many maps do you have? and how easy is it to flip from map to map? sorry for my ignorance - i haven't done all my homework yet n' i'm just eager to know haha

 

I am also very interested in the 6 port mappings. I would be happy to work with Jeff on my '08. It was used by Mazda for certifying the Mazda Speed intake/exhaust for the '08 RX8's so I am not sure if they modified the mapping on it. They did dyno it but I unfortunately did not get a copy.

Just to make sure I am understanding though, Cobb does have mappings for the 6 port that work? Is it using the same AccessPORT that is listed for the MT's only on their website?

I am not quite readt to shoot my waranty to hell with a supercharger but I am very interested in increasing the horsepower in easily reversable ways.

Oh, and Phil, thanks for carrying the torch for us AT owners. MTers just don't get that some of us actually like to enjoy the ride even in traffic.

 

Oh it's so hard. Gosh you have to stop the car, turn the key back on, plug in the access port, pick your map and hit send. Now the really hard part is waiting 4 whole minutes for it to remove the old flash and install the new. Need more maps? Send Jeff an email on his special address and usually within 24 hours you will have your wish. Then you just copy the new flash map off the Internet onto the software provided with the kit and into the AP. Since you live within a distance that he is willing to travel, you may just con him into a custom install - especially at the SO. Cal Dyno Days (shameless plug for Jedi's meet - this will cost him) . Atilla, you know I was playing with you, it's so easy that even an old hardheaded fart like me can do it. How many do I have? I think he left me with about 6 but until I confirm if something is not working correctly (boost bypass) he is holding off sending any more.

I would not say Cobb has the maps for your 6 port but Jeff does. He can flash it now for economy (much better fuel) or some increase in performance. I don't know how he does it - must be magic. Any answer you get from him will be slanted toward conservatism and you will almost always do better than he tells you. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO HIS INSTRUCTIONS AS THERE ARE STILL WAYS YOU CAN CAUSE HARM BUT NOT IF YOU LISTEN AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.

Jeff is coming down to So. Cal during the dyno days meet and is bringing several APs with him and also bringing a broken down bald fart named Charles R. Hill (boy will I get flamed). If your really interested now is the time to buy cuz he is talking about doing custom installs when down there.

Please keep in mind that you can't get big horsepower out of a stocker - just ain't possible. Some additional HP, yes but some mods will make the flash even better - again ask Jeff or Ray. Ya want a screaming dragon with 300hp + - get FI cuz it ain't gonna happen without.

Thank you for your kind words - I enjoy my a/t and feel the need to tell others that the a/t is as good as the m/t, maybe better but just a little different.

 

Jeff and I tried it on my car last week. Seemed to make a difference. I don't have any numbers as of yet. Tomorrow is a dyno session that I plan on attending, so I hope to get some numbers before and after the Cobb.

 

And be sure everyone understands that yours is so stock that you should be a Mazda Poster boy.

 

Mine is so stock I should be the Mazda 4 Port NA Poster Boy.

I do have the Mazdaspeed V2 cat back exhaust.

 

Oh, I thought you were 6 port - I know that Jeff tuned a 6 port and I thought it was you. Oh my god you modded your car - did you have a momentary lapse? Your the warranty king - did you get it in writing that the MS exhaust would not void your warranty?? With you they would be looking for something

 

My warranty (engine)will be up in 8000 miles. Did you hear that Mazda? Now you can sleep at night.
But I will still have my Emissions warranty. So sleep light.

So I'll see if I can break 130 RWHP tomorrow.

 

I have NOT verified it on a 6-port, 6-speed auto.
If someone in Phoenix or L.A. (and is coming to the L.A. dyno day), I will verify its function.

OK Atilla - there you go - you even could get a discount. I was mistaken obviously, I was sure he said that he had done a 6 port. Sorry Jeff, I must be getting old and hearing things.

 

This Accessport. I love the price of it vs the Interceptor X, however whats the increase in HP if any for us plain N/A guys? Would it do us any good?

 

I sure hope so! Most of my customers are N/A.
It also has a ton of other features that address drivability and engine longevity in ways that Mazda does not on their own.

 

Any idea numberwise on the HP? (Phil's 8 is my hero)
