I like the fact that your able to gain more off the line jump with this how much did it cost and where did you get it done at again?

Carbon buildup is a killer with rotaries so when you can, redline your 8 and don't be shy to hear that faint "beeep"

My performance mods so far: (as I have done many many other mods that help with aesthetics)
1. Borla catback exhaust (for sound and looks)
2. CanZoomer Piggyback ECU
3. Racing Beat F/R sways
4. Tenzo R GT-5's 18x8 wrapped around Falken RT-615's

Future mods:
1. Tein springs
2. Rear shock tower brace
3. Turbo/SC when available

I just bought an 05 AT, and I am always driving in town. This is bad? Should I be using my manual mode?

As long as you redline the car, it does not matter if it is in auto or manual mode. Only redline the car when it is at normal operating temp. If you want buy a fuel system cleaner.

Ok, Thanks. The car has a rebuilt engine, I just got it from Mazda. What should my first upgrade be? Cold air intake or exhaust? I would like a nice Exotic sound, not too loud, but head turning.

If you want sound then go with an exhaust. Go on youtube and search for different brands of catbacks on rx8.

First mod is premix gas with 1/2 oz per gal with 2TC 2 cycle oil ( it gives better power and mpg, too so is free).

Second mod-BHR coil upgrade to make sure you're burning off those deposits.

Third mod-put at least a 18,500 GVW tube and fin cooler like Derale on your trans fluid (approx.$50, and can lower temps to save 100 times that much).

Fourth mod-get a good alignment to make sure the rear camber is straightened up (-1.7 instead of -2.0, etc.).

Fifth mod-keep your stock air filter (replace with WIX), but take the two wall baffles out of air filter housing.

Sixth mod-run some thicker oil like Xw40 (almost any late formula MO works).

Most of these mods are free, and most of the ones out there that cost a lot don't do much.

^really easy.

The screws to remove the center frame around the shifter are by the ash tray. Once unscrewed, go to the cupholder n' look for a small piece that you can pop out (front cupholder @ about 2'oclock). Once you pull that out you can use that to pop up the center frame.

Everything from there is pretty much self explanitory.

@40w8: On your fifth mod(Do not take out the two screens). This is the problem with most after market cold air systems is they don't have those 2 screens in them and they throw a cel. Those two screens are there for a reason. The cel is thrown with out the screens because of turbulent air and this makes the mas air flow sensor throw a cel.

I made my own cold air system and left the screens in that section of stock tube and I don't get a cel ad my performance is rocking.

Some posts removed to prevent the persistence of a misunderstanding by multiple people involved. Move on please.

I love my auto 8. So far my current mods are a custom single exhaust, and a high flow cat. I premix every tank and redline my car every day multiple times. I only drive in fully manual mode. If you keep the auto in the rev range of 4000-7800rpm this car still moves pretty good IMO for what it is. I have no complaints at all. However I wonder what kind of power the greddy kit set at about 5-6psi would accomplish. I would use a Cobb for tuning and an aem intake. Would this setup be reliable/decent for the money? I'd more than likely get the engine rebuilt before I do this mod along with a bhr ignition.

Rx8 (unreliable) + turbo (unreliable) + someone saying they will rebuild the engine just because (unreliable) + an automatic transmission (should never have been made) = ?

In all fairness, I wouldn't bother putting that much time and money into it. You can buy a used maxima for the price of a turbo kit and be faster probably.

Don't know this poster or his qualifications but it is obvious to me he that he lacks knowledge in the the automatic 8. Check my mods and talk to me or my friends and you will see that it is a very reliable combination. I have owned mine since it was new.

If you are going to add a turbo or super charger it is best to check with someone who has done it. I know several and they have had great results

There are several things that have to be done before you just throw on a turbo or supercharger but it is a rewarding mod. I'll have mine at Seven-Stock.....stop by and see it.

Phil,

That sounds awesome. I'm actually in the middle of getting an engine now, but boosting the 8 is something I've dreamed about doing. i was planning on getting the greddy kit and adding a whole lot more to it. I had planned on using a cobb ap for tuning. Would swapping the injectors also be important in this setup? From what I have been reading, its all in how the boosted renesis is tuned that will ensure reliabilty correct? Forgive my ignorance but is seven stock in Florida?

One more thing, who is in your avatar?! Good god man

5th Mod totally wrong!. If you remove the 2 in line baffles you wil likely pick up a CEL. Those baffles keep that from happening. The stock MAFS is sensitive to turbulant air and will throw a CEL. I have a custom air intake and i used it without and it threw a CEL and with the ar baffles i haven't thrown a code since i reinstalled them. I don't recommend removing them unless you like code hunting lol.

You need to post less, and read up more about Baffles vs Screens.

One has absolutely nothing to do with the mitigation air turbulence, the other does.

One could produce a CEL, the other cannot.

One could produce a rough idle, the other cannot.

it is up to you to research the topic and educate yourself on the matter

I think my point was made son. I meerly left out the fact that the rear screen does not throw a CEL but again son my point was made and i actually tried the intake with and with out the screens but i guess you missed that right.

The Cobb is a good way for tuning moded 8s. I an not a turbo man. I would suggest you ask some one about the injectors.....I was forced to change mine. Tuning is the most important thing when boosting your 8 and reliability will be very good if you take care of engine......Abuse it and loose it

Seven Stock is Cali.......
