Most would just install it themselves. I'm sure that if you wish to do it yourself you could find someone that would give you step by step instruction and may already be in the DIY section. Check your regional forum for someone who may be willing to give you a hand.

You and I know they are not but you try and tell them and they just get excited. Reading what others have done or asking questions is not in some game plans.

When i first joined the forum i always thought it would probably be the easiest to just pay someone to do it for me - but after lurking around on the DIY forums - i realized how much money could be saved by just grabbin' a couple of tools and jacks...

You took the time to read and stooped to listen to what was already going on. Your savings in labor must have been near the costs of your mods. There are somethings that should be done by a qualified mechanic but the average bolt on mod can be done by almost anyone. As I am sure you found out, joining one of the local 8 groups also gains you extra hands and knowledge.

Up pops the impatient one himself. Now if your just into the car for the moment and wish to produce quick short term power cheaply (notice I said quick short term power) the Taj is right, NOs is quick power. If you plan on tracking the car, keeping the car for a while, or want long term boost then you really need to look at FI.

Most of you feel it's "just another car" and will do little bolt ons, exhaust and intake and call it quits. These are easy mods and if you will read the DIY section you will find the correct way to install them and save money. If you wish to go further, look around on the forum, you will find people ready to help and master mechanics that do not gouge you.

Just be sure to keep in mind that the bolt on mods are going to gain you mostly sound. Few of them produce noticeable performance gains.

I noticed as I was leaving last night that your car is an AT as well (obvious since you are posting here, I know). Do you have the 4 or 6 speed?
I have a 4 speed. I was just curious about the transmission kit cause the bf is in the AT part of schooling and was learning about it. Of course wants to put it on my car but I don't trust it.

Mine is the 4AT as well. Our transmission is supposed to be a pretty durable one, but the gear ratios are pretty tall. I helped lower them all a bit by installing a lower rear gear. Not a cheap mod. I figured it cost me about 1500 or 1600 out the door. But that was with having Mazmart build the differential, and a mechanic buddy install it. If your BF is a decent mechanic he would probably be able to install the diff for you and save you a few hundred bucks, but I would have a specialist like Rick Engman at Mazmart build the differential for you. They will do it for you for a very reasonable price with a core swap. That means when you install the new diff they send you, you ship them back the old diff. The gear itself will cost you roughly 700 bucks, and Mazmart charged me about 450 for the build (including some machining they had to do on the gear to make it work smoothly). That was a few months back so the cost may be different now, but that gives you a ballpark idea. It cost about 50 bucks to ship the old differential back via ups.

It doesn't make a huge difference, but it is noticeable. However, if you plan on going FI you might want to skip this and just put the money towards your FI solution. FI will give you a much more noticeable increase. However, the two are not mutually exclusive, so you could do both. As I probably hope to do someday.

I should also say that the custom build diff from Mr. Engman feels much smoother than the OEM one ever did. But it is completey OEM externally, so unless your mazda dealer takes it apart they will never know it is aftermarket, if that is a concern. I have a good relationship with my dealer mechanic, so I discuss all my mods with him anyway.

I also feel the urge to tell you guys that in the long run, nitrous will not wear out your engine anymore than any other FIs do

the only gripe is refilling the damn bottle

and it only lasts 1-2 weeks per tank

if u want to call it a day and get forever boost (until u need to rebuild) turbo/ supercharger (2 turbos)

actually stronger than even you were admitting, but still a week link in the big HP scheme of things. Addressing it has shown that it's a little tough to crack to keep it economical.

I got a CEL for a short time, but I can't remember if it was that eccentric shaft CEL (which would have been related to the gear change) or the CEL for the gas tank being low. Either way, they both went away. I believe I remember something about the computer having to learn something a bit different, and I think it had to do with the eccentric shaft.

The performance transmssion built and installed by level ten to me made the biggest overall driving experience. The car finds the power quicker and no more waiting for the rpms to rise to get into the power band. The transmssion finds the power right away. The higher stall speed of the torque converter helps.

What was the cost on your new tranny? Did they change the gear ratios? Is it still a 4 speed and use the stock computer? I'm guessing it ain't cheap, but it's cool that you did it!

really interested on upgrading the tranny, coz the 4 speed one revs up much more slower than the 6 speed ATs, have to wait the rpm up for a while to get the power, invasion08, how much they cost you to upgrade the tranny? and where can i go to ?

I had to spend the money on the transmission because mine was burnt up and pieces broke up inside. To rebuild the transmssion back to stock would have cost 3400 so i decided to upgrade. Trust me i rather have spent that money on other things. The new transmission is awesome and makes the rx8 more responsive and faster from a dead stop all the way up the rpm range
