Anybody change JUST a pulley on a 4AT?

Just wondering what difference people notice with the pulley change on a 4AT. I seem to find posts about pulleys on MTs, but I haven't found one where the person had a 4AT and only changed to underdrive pulleys. By only changed I mean didn't do other mods at the same time.

Thanks! It would be good to get some feedback on this. I think it would be very helpful for a lot of AT owners.

Pulley will shorten engine life!

Use inter-X!! gained 20whp with 1600USD!

Buy Racing beat intake and exhaust +10HP!

Change header +5HP!

Buy High flow cat +5HP!

Thats total of 45mixed WHP!

Stock dyno 145-150 whp for automatic! add those together = 180-190WHP!

I can see this close to 200WHP!

Any more mods? lets give some more .......

How is the pulley going to "shorten your engine life"?

that seems much too high

and for that much cost you could put most of it towards a SC

Sorry if I missed this in my searches, but can someone comment specifically of the effects (positive or negative) of the Agencey Pulley on either a 4AT or 6AT??

Even in engine response?? I am not looking for 5-9 HP or anything like that, just quicker revving and better engine response. Your thoughts?

Also, it seems that the AC is not affected TOO MUCH with this pulley, but just looking for experiences from AT users as I asked a MT member...

How do you know it will shorten engine life? Has someone installed a pulley and drove there 8 untill it stopped working? If it does shorten engine life by how much?

I haven't owned an 8 for long but I did some research and learned that the Agency Pulley is widely suggested as it is also pretty cheap. It hardly increases your horsepower (maybe 1-2 HP, although I believe they claim 5) but what it does do is increase your acceleration through first gear.

Our cars are pretty quick on the top end, but I know that I've personally never been happy with the immediate off-the-line jump. I definitely think its worth the money.

I'm in the process of ordering one. Once it gets here, I'll report back.

That's common talk for piston engines. Rotaries don't have the balancing issues that their piston counterparts have. If a pulley does shorten your engine life, it'll be negligable, imo.

Guys, have any of you considered swaping over to a JDM ECU. The JDM 4AT version gets 154kw if memory serves me. the export versions got 141kw.

Very simple to simply plug in & play

I know I will on my 4AT.

As for pulleys changing the life of you engine.........Well, I wont even grace that stupidity with a reply.

However, if the gearing on your alternator is changed via a smaller diameter pulley, it may wear out quicker than usual. Just something to think about

Let us know how the JDM ECU works out, and the cost. If it is not too high of a cost, might be a good mod. Although it might make warranty service a pain...

The CAN bus makes oem ecu swaps virtually impossible, as far as I know. I don't know if it can be reprogrammed to accept the new bus or vice versa.

I will investigate this further.

Even if the CAN bus prevents it. It still would be possible, just knowing "how" will be the issue.
