this is always interesting and i hope mr. hill reads this hehe. But sometimes like when im showing off to my friends and take them for rides i do it in 3rd and hit the nitrous about 6k rpms and then at 8k it like hits some kind of fuel cut type of thing it feels like. Like it feels and sounds like hitting a governer almost and the CEL will flash a couple times and everything goes back to normal. Usually i wait like a min then go back to using nitrous and it does just fine. Anyone have an input on that?

The computer pulls lots of timing to stop it.

So in conclusion, a dry shot will cause bad things to happen sooner or later, because the Zex system can't really increase the AFR on an RX-8 to what it needs to be to safely boost?

Correct.... you will need to run a wet kit to add more fuel when the nitrous is in use. I have to clue how his engine is still alive if he is only adding nitrous and no fuel. Especially if its detonating and it is being played off like a "fuel cut".

Use a wet kit. If you for some reason still want a dry kit you would have to use engine management with some kind of switch setup so it adds more fuel when the nitrous is active.

Where's my popcorn. This is going to be interesting.

I have the ZEX Wet kit with a 65 shot of nitrous and a 55 shot of fuel. I have done hours of tuning with Mazdamaniac on and off the dyno to get this right. I also have the Accessport. I have already blown one intake manifold.

I just can't wait to see what happens to you guys.

Well i ran my dry kit for about 3 months.. Finished off about 4 bottles and never had an intake explode. I never actually anything severe happen.... It was fun, but now i have moved on. As a few other people on here have said i was wrong.. And i would not recommend a dry kit to the other rx8 users. But since i had the money to not care if i blew my engine i kept doing it anywayz. Although my engine survived just fine with no problems i still wouldnt do it.

So my overall opinion *Dry Kit NOT Recommended

But it was fun and if you got money to pay for an extra engine if/when it does decide to grenade then its some cheap thrills lol

Well put.

Also the intake exploding. Most likely due to fuel and nitrous "puddleing" up inside the intake and then being ignited.

Ideal nitrous in my mind would be the duel nozzel direct port system that charles has photos up of. Seems to be the best way to do the setup and has the most potential for larger shots (more safely) in the future.

The key to preventing a nitrous backfire is two fold: Running a window switch to ensure you're only spraying at max load and the second is not operating the nitrous at low RPM's. Since the intake isn't designed to flow liquid but air there are areas where fuel can puddle and a nitrous backfire can occur.

While I'm not an experienced user of nitrous, based on what I've seen I wouldn't operate nitrous anywhere below 4,000 RPM's. That way you've got plenty of vaccum to pull the fuel and nitrous into the motor.

It's not an idiot proof system and responsibility is still needed to prevent damage to your car.

THAT would be an excellent tool to help increase the amount of nitrous that could be used. I certainly would love to see a 100 or even a 150 shot of nitrous on the RX8. You wanna talk about catching somebody off guard!
