woot Nitrous for the win
Put a zex kit in my 8 a while ago but i just got the bottle filled the other day and started running it around town. Its pretty nice. I kept it down to a 65 shot just to be safe. i got a couple pics of the install i guess i can post here.

Nice...hey any of you fogger types know why people put NOS on a boosted car?
I am assuming it is just to get a large turbo spooled up faster...but if there is another good reason...say I won't put in on mine!!! |
Congratulations! you now have no boot space whatsoever!

I am assuming it is just to get a large turbo spooled up faster...but if there is another good reason...say I won't put in on mine!!! depends on the application....some use it as an initial boost to help you get into boost quicker.....some use it on the intercooler in the form of a spray bar....colder denser right into the intercooler=more hp....some just like allot more power....and drewman it sounds like your a bit jealous :) |

Its a noticeable power increase but its not like the movies where you flip the switch and your head hits the back of your seat and your vision goes blurry. It does pul you back ino the seat more than usual tho don't get me wrong. And unlike most I'm running a dry shot instead of wet. I have a friend here in town that had a wet shot in his 8 and he had some problems with it (like his intake manifold exploding) And when i spray i am running extremely rich. Like when i first hit it my car even bogs for a split second then takes off. I'm sure part of that is cuz i dont have my purge kit installed yet. But i am quite pleased with my dry kit I'm not having any problems with it yet... I'm running at low temps still got no knocks no idleing problems, everything is peachy.

Hey man good to hear that your nitrous setup is running good. When you gonna take it to the track to get some real numbers.
|
why would you not tap the rubber accordion tube instead of the hard plastic part of the intake box?
Congrats! I found I had less stress on my previous-previous car using N2O than when I had it booooooooosted. :) |
If you run a 65 shot dry...you are going to have huge problems with your A/F unless you do something to add fuel..........The A/F is rich stock...but not enough to support a dry 65shot of NOS :(

You would have to increase the FP a lot to get the additional flow that you need. Usually dry type systems use addititonal injector pulsewidth to add fuel...that takes some type of ECU modifications or a piggyback ........
I hope you are running an A/F guage and doing some logs....... |

Sounds like he got a "puddle" built up inside the intake manifold. Seen it happen quite a bit at the dragstrip....mostly on the V8 cars running dual stage setups, but it can happen just as easily on the street with a basic wet kit. |
sweet setup!
Listen to Charles...he's the resident Nos expert. |

ok Just so you guys know a dry shot isnt just like just shooting nitrous into your motor. The zex actuater box taps into the fuel pressure regulator so that when you use the nitrous it adds more fuel by pulling more fuel through the regulater instead of mixing it with the nitrous directly. So dry kits add more fuel too just in a dfferent way.

Holy crap. 65 shot dry kit on an 8. You are brave my friend. Welcome to the club.

*Update*
So its been like what over a month.. Hmm.. About a month and a half that I've had Nos in my RX-8. A dry shot non-the-less and everything is still peachy. No CEL lights no problems at all. Still puttin stock evo's in their place and I'm quite happy. Someone asked why i put it in the hard plastic box. Well i had the special drill bit to make the hole specifically for the nozzle so i used it and i wanted to put it in something hard for better anchoring. I figured the hard plastic with the right hole would be more durable and less likely to stretch or leak. |

I am getting the NterCooler kit wired. Can I have the throttle swtich and a regular push button switch? My train of thought is if I want to cool prior to luanching or cooling down afterwards be able to use the push botton. When the heat of the race let the throttle switch do it's thing so I can have both hands on the wheel. Letting me focus on everything else. |
Yes I ran it by Cam they were the ones who installed the bottle, spray bar and the NO2 lines.
The wiring for the switches and remote bottle opener are being done locally. The kit does come with the TPS. In reference to the time it may take to cool I thought of the same thing. Thats why I was thinking of starting to cool the system prior to launching. Thanks for the help. It will be done tomorrow I'll let you know how it goes. |
So where does one go to get one of these high speed "remote bottle openers" cuz that would make my life grand....
|
Here you go my install will be finished tomorrow.
http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Pages/Opener.htm I will update tomorrow night. |
I had to go test the setup. I went throught he whole 15lb bottle last night. The car did run better and cooler. I have not installed an after temp market gauge. So all I can say is it moved two clicks to the right. After running and realeasing what ever was left in the system prior to the next run. I was able to put my handon the Manifold it was hot but not to the point i couldn't place my hand there.
The system was wired with: an arming switch Bottle opening switch TPS switch (throttle switch) and a push but switch to use at my will |
