Use a transmission blanket.
I am not joking at all.

I just blew up my 4th stock trans behind a stock NA Renesis

If you don't mind shifting like a little girl then go for it, otherwise you better use a Tremec etc

the chain is only as strong as it weakest link and the RX-8 transmission is a very weak link.

I'd say use a rx7 fd, nothing else. Even angeljoev is hearing weird noises from his t56-not made for high revs

Yeah see the SCCA Nationals thread in the Competition forum.

A friend who runs a 20BT in an FD3 just switched to a Jerico dog box after blowing up multiple FD3 5 speed boxes, this is a clutchless shifting manual racing trans for a competition car but it makes the point that unless you don't mind breaking/replacing OE gearboxes you better get a stronger one that can handle the load

If you can't afford the rest of the equipment to support the engine then you can't afford the swap from the get go

you have to specify it's for a rotary, they make alternate parts for high rpm rotary engines, call Taylor etc

Listen to Team, I just blew up an RX-8 gearbox with my "measly" (Compared to a 20B) 330-rwhp so yeah, do a Tremec T-56. See angeljoelv, he's done a REAL nice 20B swap with this trans

The turbo Rx-7 trannies are plenty strong unless you are doing hardcore drag racing all the time on them with very high horsepower cars. The 2nd and 5th gear synchros do wear out, but any shop that has rebuilt Ford Ranger manual trannies can rebuild an Rx-7 tranny. I have zero tranny problems with 400+rwhp. I'd say they are good to 500+rwhp depending on how much drag racing you do. If you don't launch them you won't break anything for a long time.

For the 20B you will need the proper counterweight etc. along with solving the mounting issues. The 20B only came with an automatic from the factory.

Sure, but in an SE3P chassis along with removing the center console, cutting a new hole in the tunnel for the shifter, and modifying the PPF to account for the longer tailshaft housing

I broke one of those in a stock FD3 too

not to mention that a 20B makes more torque at the likely shift point, which is what typically breaks them rather than peak hp

Get a $10k HKS dog gear tranny it will never die. Mazda has used the same bolt pattern sence 79 I think? I could be wrong. Might be more back than that.

the question is whether or not they make the tailshaft housing length and hence shifter and PPF mounting locations for an RX-8 chassis

There are likely less costly options using modified T5, T56, etc. transmissions

I've asked PAR-Engineering to confirm whether or not the gearsets they sell for the Miata 6 spd Aisin AZ6 transmission will fit the RX-8 6 spd Aisin AZ6 transmission, they offer both straight or helical, dog or synchro, no extra charge for custom ratios

I didn't ask about the Quaife, but north of $10,000 wouldn't surprise me, a sequential isn't legal in some classes ....
