na, it should get high teens/low 20's on the freeway.
there's a bit of extra weight to deal with, but there won't be much load on the engine at cruise, so we'll crank up the timing and lean it out in those spots.

of course when he steps on the gas......well, you KNOW what's gonna happen then (at $2.85 a gallon). i think i may end up tuning it on 87 for low boost, but we'll see what happens with it.

AND, unfortunately, i've been asked to make this pass the sniffer, so it'll have the air control valve hooked up and fully functional.

it's still not smog legal, but at least it'll pass the sniffer.

let's see how well it holds up to the engine heat. hey, at least it looks sexy just sitting there.

Mazda does. :-) The 20b was used in the Cosmo in Japan. The numbers of these engines are quite limited. The rotors and housings are the same as the 13b, but the center-housings are different. No its not a Renesis because amongst other reasons, the exhaust is perhipheral, not side.

It's pearl purple! i love that color. It's one of my favorites!

My first 6 RC Car bodies all used a combination of that paint.

But mazda is currently making a 20b renesis engine for racing. It was announced a few weeks ago.

No they aren't. It has just been referred to as a Renesis purely from a reference standpoint only. The new race engine dubbed R20B is actually based off of the old 13G 3 rotors which preceded the 20B. There still wasn't much difference between the 20B race engine and the 13G. The new R20B is an all peripheral port engine. No side ports anywhere.

feel free to do so at your convenience. i'll leave some brakecleen out for cleanup :p

tuj, the rotor housings are different castings completely...but they are compatible. other than swapping the sleeves in the 20b housings, the only real mod i had to make to the rear rotor housing was drill 2 of the bolt holes a little larger for the 2 big tension bolts--piece of cake.

I stand corrected.

So it's all naming eh?

Well that's gay. I really wanted to see how they ran those side ports on the center rotors too..

Hmm, I didn't know that. I knew that one of the center plates was different, but other than that I thought it was all interchangeable/identical. Why didn't they use 13b casting's on the housings? Seems like that would have made more sense.

That aside, I would still love to see a real 3 rotor Renesis. I would think it could get more hp than the 20b (given the Renesis makes more than a NA 13b) in street form, altho less than a 13g, but the 3 rotor Renesis would idle and pass emissions. I am holding out hopes that a new rx-7 will have a this engine.

i'll get some pics for you in the next few days if i can. the sleeves in the 20b are really restrictive, but they offer a lot of noise reduction (it came out of a luxury car). i've got another cosmo 13b with the sleeves intact that i can take pics of.
