Where do you dump your wastegate?

I will be installing a turbo kit when the weather is warm enough and have a question regarding the wastegate dump.

How do your guys dump your waste gate? Exhaust dump or atmosphere dump? How loud is the atmosphere dump on the RX 8? I rode in my friend WRX STI and his atmosphere dumb is not too loud. You can hear it but it is not so loud that it becomes annoying. And it only loud if you really mean it. Drive normally it doesn't make any sound. I search for RX 8 turbo and can't really hear any wastegate sound other than BOV sound .

For those that do exhaust dump, how do you do it and where inthe exhaust you connect the dump tube? By the Cat? The rule of thumb seem to be at least 18" from the turbo manifold and tube connect at 45 degree to prevent turbulance in the exhaust.

Any suggestion would be appreciate.

Thanks.

search streetfire.net for esmeril turbo and you can hear my wastegate to atmosphere.

it sounds good, not as loud as going catless, apparently it sounds extremely badass according to the people that have heard me getting on it.

Hi

I have been reading about your Esmeril turbo built thread lately after doing search on Esmeril Turbo. How is the kit holding up? How does it perform at the track? Did you end up replacing your water pump and stock radiator? Any issue with over heating at the track? Have you replace your stock coil with Esmeril or BHR coil? How many psi you run on your car? What AFR you running when the boost kick in? I will have mine install in spring and just want to know how loud the atmosphere dump is on RX 8. I will go back and listen to that video. Do you have any of video on your car beside the one you idel in the garage?

Thanks much

Staticlag,

Just listen to your video, the sound is not loud as I thought it would be. I had been listened to other car such as the supra, nissans and they are extremely loud. If the sound is only that loud I think I can live with it.

If you have some other video of your car with the turbo, send me the link. I want to see them.

Thanks again

I would dump to atmosphere straight to the ground, exhaust dump ewg can cause turbulence and more back pressure. When you get it done post some vids I want to see more 8's with ewg's.

Hey, Kit was doing good when I pulled it off to sell it to whitesnowflake8, I got rid of it cause I was going back to school and needed some cash. Yup I had the mazmart water pump and the BHR griffin radiator in for a while. Those two things significantly helped with keeping the temps down. I had the MSD coils ready to wire up but I sold them off at the last minute for some cash I ran 11 psi on the car, afr of 11.0 I had it for a while but didn't have the time to make more videos

Turbo makes the car scary fast. As you can see in the video jsut a few seconds of boost and I was already over the speed limit.

Thanks Staticlag. I don't know if my car will ever see track days. I would love to go to Brainard Race Way and take a high performance driving there. In the future if all things go well financially, I may convert my car to run E85. Engine would run cooler and hopefully the engine will last longer.

I can see from one of the video that Chris made the car is really fast. I will have to be more cautious when I drive after the turbo is installed. I love cars but I can't afford a Porsche. Hopefully this time around I will have a car that almost as quick.

It helped alot but when you drive the car hard the stage 2 snow performance methanol injection help a bunch. Oh yeah i have the stage 3 mazsport set up. I will post vid when I get my car back from the shop. i had to replace the back bumper due to a minor mishap.

Suay, you live in Texas so you need a larger radiator than I do here in Minnesota. Weather is cool most of the time. I already got the water pump (mazmart) from one of the forum member so I will install it before I install the turbo. Post the video when you get your car back from the shop. Take video from a drive by and also from inside the car with both the window roll up and down. Make sure you tune the car error on the safe side so the motor won't hurt if you happen to use bad gas.

Thanks.

Suay,
BHR radiator is probably one of the best right now for our car. However, radiator is not high on my priority at the moment. Several of my friends here are running turbo using stock radiator and stock water pump and they run just fine. I have mazmart water pump that I will install later just for a piece of mind. Regarding radiator, one of the thread called "radiator radiator radiator" contain really good information that you might want to read. Or do search using "BHR radiator" as keyword and there are tons of good threads to read too.

How is your car running? How many miles do you have on the motor now since install the turbo?

Thanks.

Where to dump it?
Back into the downpipe where it belongs.
Unless you want to be labeled a ricer.

First, that is a bypass valve, not a waste gate.
I presume you were just being facetious.

Second, since a blower can't respond to engine demand, it has no use for such a device.

Do you have a photo of how you have yours set up for the dump pipe to the exhaust? What angle you have the dump tube connect to the exhaust? 45 degree? What exhaust are you running? 3"? By the way, I just watch a video of you on youtube yesterday at Buttonwillow raceway (?) It was a 2 mins video. You have a sweet setup car for the track.
