I pass through Edmonton twice a month between work and Calgary maybe sometime we can meet and talk cars. Have been spending a lot of time reading through the threads and there is a huge amount to understand with these for getting longevity with some extra power.

Thanks to everyone who has been sharing information.

The end result wasn't worth the time and effort. He regrets his decision. He also lives in canada and will accept 3/4 of a hotdog for the kit because our dollar is so much better.

Yes you are flying blind and it is extremely difficult if weird problems are occurring, but by following logical fault finding methods we get there most of the time .
Sounds like when my O2 sensor died, but was only cutting out after 5000~ rpm.
That was such a bizarre issue.

Living in Alberta there is no exchange advantage; No Alberta Job advantage anymore either :-( I did read your build thread and believe you did a great job on it although I was unclear if the tune was finalized. If the 8 was appropriate for me I would ask what you would accept for it.

Having read so much about these cars and the fun of driving them, my discussions with my wife and friends about getting one were getting pretty in depth.

Edit. Deleted reasons for not buying an 8, still valid but cannot forget the idea of owning one.

Somehow missed this post, but even if you offered it to me for pennies on the dollar, I would have to decline. I enjoy the journey, making the car my own, open the hood and it's my own personal touch you see.

That being said, I have a large garage, two post lift, every tool I think I'll need, air tools...things that make the task easier and more enjoyable...

Now I just have to get my mind made up as to what I'm going to do, REW, 20B, or Renesis....the obvious choice would be 20b, but after crunching the numbers, that's one helluva investment, and it's not a motor I can work on myself. There's literally no documentation out there as to how to rebuild one...Mazda saw to that.

No super secret stuff rebuilding 20B. Basically all the things that you do for a 2 rotor go into the 20B build. Few little issues , but basically the same

Big difference is in the cost..and making the room to get it to fit.

REW will fit relatively easily compared to the 20B....and there are options for motor mounts that make that part of the build plug and play. You still need to fabricate all the other crap...but if you have a shop and welding skills...the result is very cool.

Nothing like a 400+whp RX-8 to make you smile...

If you are going to turbo a Renesis you should do a lot of research and ask around...and personally I would run a Meth/water injection system or E85 if you have it available locally. They are really on the edge even with a good tune..and prone to die an early death ...especially if over 350HP

Yeah, never rebuilt a rotary before, have other engines, but that's comparing apples and tacos. I've got all the atkins documentation on how to rebuild the renesis, and well...I have a spare one in a car I have yet to pull. That's another factor, I already have a renesis core, and even if I blow that one to bits, those aren't that hard to come by.

Then there's the fact that it's just easier with the renesis, very little fabrication involved. I understand it's much more likely to blow, but then I see these success stories such as 9k and slash and others, some of which are in fact pushing over 400 hp, it makes me wonder. Why the hell would I go through all the hassle of an engine swap when I can reach that 400 hp goal with the power plant that's installed?
I've done so much reading I haven't absorbed it all, but, people using rx7 seals and modifying the exhaust ports, really seems to get the renesis to work...

Since I now have 2 rx8's, I'm thinking what I may do is try my luck with a turbo renesis first, if it fails spectacularly then I'll push for a swap in the other one...

I think your analogy is pretty much spot on, it's like comparing apples and tacos. They're both food, that's where the similarities end. You wouldn't have a farmer start up a mexican restaurant.

MD I didn't know how to make a new post new to website so I posted here

Ok guys I'm new to my 2005 MT rx-8 109xxx miles on her and I'm haveing some issues and would like some guidecene please . I'm having a coil 2 misfire and I re placed plugs coils and wires with Black halo racing and I still have an issue so though reading multiple things I got it to the pump valve solenoid and replaced that and it ran better but I still got the code and now I'm thinking it's a vaccine leak on the intake bc I had to take that off to change the solenoid thoughts on that?? Also I'm getting a neutral safety switch code and I did read up on to fix that. But when I'm driving and slowing down at res lights and I push in clutch sometimes it just stalls out and won't start for like three red light rotations. Is the neuya safty swtichbdoing that or do I have low compression ?? Thoughts please every response is welcome to me I love Jos car and want to make it fast but I just need help to get healthy Thank you
