Wastegate Stuck open?

I recently installed my esmeril turbo kit, which i got used from a fellow forum member. However, after starting the car up multiple times and allowing it to run, It seems to constantly dump exhuast from the wastegate, even at idle. the exhaust doesn't seem to be leaking from anywhere except the location it should when it is at operating pressure, but it does this at idle when the turbo isn't spooled up or anything.

I have disassembled and reassembled this wastegate (tial) and it seems to be in perfect working order.

any ideas?

Stupid question, but does it have a spring in it?

have you tested the wastegate with a pressure source off the car?

Seems to be easy to push down with the spring in it. Could the spring be from something else? I can compress it with two fingers most of the way.

At idle, it should not be producing any pressure to compress the spring. The car is in Vac and not boost. Take the wastegate off the car and test it to see if air is passing through it. Something has to be not seated right or keeping the valve from closing all the way. Any visible opening that would let the air through?

nope, no visible openings. I'll check with the air compressor.

nothing is getting through either with the airgun.

with the car running stick your hand up next to it and see if you can feel where the air is comign from. Is it coming from the opening on the WG or is it coming form the flange where it connects to the manifold. Maybe you have a leak at where it attaches to the manifold?

(obiously be careful to not touch the hot exhaust)

I can clearly see it coming from the tube that's connected to the opening on the wastegate where it is supposed to come out (forgot the term). It doesn't appear to be leaking anywhere else. I'm thinking the spring may be from another something or other, i'm going to call my local guy and see what he thinks.

the waste gate opens off of the signal from the vac line. If no air passes through it on the bench when testing then no air should be passing through it on the car if there is not a pressure source on the end of of the Vac line. If you unhook the vac line to the WG it should never open and the spring pressure would not matter.

Was it the metal seating seal that was missing?
