Turbochargers/superchargers compilation
Dear all:
For those who are looking towards geting extra power from the renesis, it would be very useful to have all of these info compiled:
a) turbocharger/supercharger manufacturers for the RX-8
b) Specs of the kits/ results (expected or/and real) on the renesis engine
c) Prices of the kits (including labour costs)
d) Videos of the RX-8 with those kits installed
e) Before and after dyno curves
I suggest that this can be started by the people who have installed one the different kits in his car.

Here's a summary of all my research I did prior to my purchase.
Pettit Supercharger:
HP: Currently making 230hp w/o an intercooler. Once they add the IC, they should be around 240hp.
When is it available: Early next year
Boost: ?
How long has it been running: ~8K miles
Engine Management: ?
Price: Around $4k
Comments: HP peaks early, good because you don’t have to rev to 9k to get power, but I kind of like reving, and there won’t be much point to reving above 6k. This is a very reputable company and really seem to know what they are doing. They have actually torn down a Renesis motor to check for wear caused by the SC. They seem to have great customer service and are really concerned with making this a reliable product.
Greddy:
HP: 220-240hp
When is it available: Now
Boost: 6psi. Boost comes on around 2500rpm
How long has it been running: They won’t disclose how long their car has been running
Engine Management: Emanage
Price: Around $3k
Comments: Greddy customer service does not seem to be good. They keep a lot of secrets and don’t disclose much (Dyno charts, tuning info….).
SSR:
HP: 280hp@~7500rpm
When is it available: Now
Boost: 8psi. Boost comes on at 4k rpm, full on at 5krpm.
How long has it been running: About a year – customers car.
Engine Management: TSI
Price: Around $7k
Comments: Uses a boost control solenoid which holds off any boost until 4k rpm, which is a little late in the game for me, but once your above 4K, it should be fun. Kind of keeps with the high reving nature of the rotary. Need to replace fuel injectors. Customer service seems to be great.
PTP:
HP: 280hp
When is it available: Turbo now, engine management in early next year
Boost: 7psi. Boost comes on at 2500k rpm, full on at 3000rpm.
How long has it been running: ~1000 miles
Engine Management: Haltek3, possible Emanage option in the future.
Price: Around $6k with Haltek.
Comments: This turbo seems to provide it all. Boost comes on early and peaks at a high RPM. This is what I would ideally want. Customer service seems great. Do not need to replace fuel injectors as long as you stay below 300hp. If they ever get it done, except for the price this I believe is the best kit yet.
HKS:
According to HKS customer service, it is still in early planning. Will not be available for anther year or so. It is not determined whether it will be turbo or supercharged.

Where have you seen the hp rating for the Pettit racing putting that out ? They have always been claiming 50 hp WITH the hi-boost (IC'ed) version. From a 180 whp RX8 that would put them at the 230 whp mark with the high end unit. In a previous thread somebody was down there claiming that the Greddy was putting out 60-70 whp, and they were a bit shocked by that & wondering how they were going to get more hp out of their unit. Honestly, I saw their unit at Sevenstock & it was pretty nice. But they have always claimed a 50 hp increase from their hi-boost version, not the non-Ic'ed low boost unit.
Also we should add Blitz (claim is 40-50 hp @ retail of $7000) to upcoming, but MM is right the only one truly out for the RX8 is the Greddy. The PTP unit seems the other one close to completion. SSR seems to bounce in & out of here on how far along they are to completion (& giving the dyno about the claimed 290 whp).

I called them and talked to them a while ago and they had decided to forget about developing two systems. They are only developing one, which they are aiming fot the 240hp intercooled SC for ~$4k.

regarding turbos... is it the turbo itself that causes mega strain on the engine and hurts the engine life? or is it BECAUSE the driver has a turbo that he DRIVES it faster and thus hurts the engine.
i ask because if it's going to hurt my dang engine, i'm not going to get one. but i'm totally about increasing power like any enthusiast.
**edit** TO ALL THE FORUM *****.. i realize i'm probably way mis-posting this reply. but i haven't taken the time to get used to these forums. give me a day or two you swine!

1) The answers are all available through a search
2) You hijacked another, unrelated thread
3) You are on your 3rd post or so and are already insulting people
If you are too lazy or too busy to go do things properly, why would you expect us to help you?

Air to air FMIC if remember correctly. Saw it at Sevenstock, also in the article in MT. The thing about production dates from all these outfits is they keep slipping. The Pettit was supposed to be here 6 months ago, same thing with the SSR/SFR unit. They keep saying a few weeks for like 6 months now.

The Axial Flow unit and Hymee's Twin Screw could be added to this thread if anyone wants to do a compilation of each. I'm not up to date enough on either to comment.

Dangit, accidental post. Anyways, Great to see all of these new turbos and SCs coming out for the 8. I am particularly interested in the HKS SC and what MS will come out with.

Thanks for mentioning the Hymee.
I have been working on the engineering of the blower drive for a bit now. Lots of fun, and hopefully some new ideas that will make the install even more "proper" and more "stealth".
Have most of the drive parts on order, just waiting for them to get back in stock and arrive here in Aus. Then I can post some more pics.
Have done some nice stuff to fairly easily change the combo to give 4 different drive ratios for a minimum of belt/sprocket combinations.
I really wan't to get something down the track at the Jamboree in September, and then down to the proposed Australian RX-8 Nationals in October.
I guess I should post that in my own thread.. Good idea, Hymee!
For those who would like the link to the full thread, try here: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/hymee-gets-supercharged-part-2-a-36376/
Cheers,
Hymee.
