Turbo inlet pipe hitting motor mount

Hi,

When I installed the turbo the intake pipe that connects to the turbo that goes through the motor mount was very close. I Thought to grind some of the mount away but didn't feel like taking it all apart again. Now I think they are hitting each other because every once in a while a hear a sound similar to two aluminum pipes banging together. I will be grinding some of the mount there when I get a chance, but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have the stock Greddy Turbo kit.

thanks

are you talking about the motor mount bracket?

I never had an issue

if you fit the pipe the correct way and bolted it tight, the pipe should move with the engine and motor mount. maybe the position the compressor housing is clocked is making them hit. won't be able to tell until you get down there and check.

Yeah I thought it would move with the engine thats why I didn't grind the mount, but I jammed a piece of card board in there and went for a drive and it stopped.

1) The mount and the pipe move together - it isn't possible for one to move on the other and create a noise.
2) You put a piece of cardboard next to your exhaust manifold?

1. Well thats what I thought but they hit and make noise.

2. Yes I put it there and took a ride around the block then took it out. There was no noise with it in then what I took it out the noise came back.

And the cardboard didnt get hot enough to start catching fire?

Then you have it installed incorrectly.

There are two bolt holes, so it is possible to bolt it in place -

a-right

or

b-wrong

I'm betting you bolted it up as 'b'......

There is a slight bent to that charge pipe. Take it out and rotate it 180 deg.

1. The cardboard didnt catch fire. I was well aware that it could and have two fire extinguishers in my car. It was for test purposes only.

2. If I rotated the pipe 180 it would literally have to go through the motor mount bracket so I am 100% sure it is installed correctly.

if that's the case:

are the bolts to attach it to the turbo tight?
check for anything that isn't tight.

and is your compressor housing clocked correctly?

What do you mean by clocked correctly? The turbo is on there how it came in the box.

I don't think you can change the clocking of the Greddy compressor. It has a index nub on the CHRA that fits into a notch in the compressor housing.

My charge pipe was really close as well. even after I put it on right.

Just out of curiosity - what is your charge pipe made of . Mine is steel and I had to modify mine to make it fit around the steering column .

yes , had to do several modifications to make it all fit . Which seemed odd given that the kit was designed in japan for RHD vehicles .....

The charge piping is ALL aluminum in the original kit and fits RHD vehicles with NO modification.

/\ actually on reflection it was the turbo intake pipe that was steel not the charge pipe .

have to disagree with you that it all fits without modification though - absolutely no way would my kit have fitted .

Well, just by virtue of the fact that your inlet pipe was steel (the original and current kits are ALL aluminum), I can't speak to your fitment.
However, I have overseen the install of the GReddy kit on two RHD vehicles and it fit without modification.

That does explain why the inlet pipe was a bitch to fit .

The charge tubing was , however , the stock tubing and that didn't fit to well either . But seeing as you oversaw 2 fitments and I only did 1 you must be right .

Or there is some other unusual feature of your car.
