Top tuners in the US - Moving from Utah (Cobb) to FL (who?)

I'm moving from Utah to FL (I'll prob buy a house in Winter Park unsure yet maybe on the ocean if its not a long drive). I'm going to school there and then taking a job as a assisant golf pro.

Before I leave i'll be doing the exhaust... full system, race pipe and such.
Cobb is about a 10min drive from where I live on South Mountain,Draper outside of SLC.

It looks like i'm going to go with the Greddy Kit.
I just bought the car, i've gotta buy a house in FL and i'm not really a money tree.

My questions:

If I get their AccessPort product i'm still going to need to use a piggyback/stand alone?

Is anyone using a different turbo or can you even use a different turbo then what is supplied with MMs kit?

Who can I pay in FL for the install and dyno time? This is going to be used as my DD for now and i'd prefer to keep it at Greddy Kit + Easy tune levels for now as I need it to be 100% reliable. I'd prefer to find a top quality person and pay even if it is a simple install.

That being said... i've put 300 miles on the car so far today and I just picked it up this afternoon. These arn't highway miles. I just can't stop driving the thing as I just randomly got out of bed and took it for a 30-40min spin.

Not at all. The AP with one of my FI tunes is all you will need.

Why? What are your power goals?

Power Goals Issue

The issue is I have no concept of what power is in an RX8.
All the cars i've owned are 3500-4000lb 500-1000R/AWHP cars.
I realize you arn't going to light up the rear in 4th on an 8.
I wish I had a chance to drive a 300 and then 400WHP 8 to get an idea.

At this point it's somplace between 350-400.
Does anyone at this point run a 400+ RWHP car?
(I realize all the trans mods ect ect the car will need)

I'm not sure your going to see 400 hp with a mm turbo upgrade might want to look at a mazsport turbo and those haven't hit 400 yet

Two great outfits down in FL. Mazsport & Pettit Racing. Also might want to take a look at the Pettit Racing Supercharger unit. Really nice.

IMO, getting the Greddy kit now is kind've a waste of money. By the time you do all the upgrades to make it reliable, & putting out the hp of even close to other kits, you are within spitting distance of the Mazsport or Pettit units.

If you consider $3000 - $5000 spitting distance.
Of course, after you spit, you might want to consider swallowing the next time.
You'll get more power for less money.
YMMV.

You could wait and see what happens with MazdaManiac/BHR's joint effort in making a complete turbo kit without needing the base Greddy kit. That's what I'm hoping for in the future. (hint, hint)

No hints necessary. The "hard parts" are in the works as we speak.

Excellent. I was hoping this was still on the path to becoming a reality.

Fast path, it seems.
Ultimately, it will be a fine piece of work.

350-400 whp is going to cost you $10grand easy on the RX8. A good GReddy kit with all the proper peripherals and a good tune is going to cost ~$6grand.
The good thing about the GReddy is you don't have to worry about upgrading anything else on a healthy motor unless you want to. The stock stuff is, according to MazdaManiac, good for 300whp.
So, $6grand will get you approx. 270ish whp.

$6600 for the complete MM/GReddy kit with injectors and the AccessPORT.
Once the BHR kit is available, you can count on it being competitively priced as well.

AccessPort reflashes your PCM. No piggyback needed.

MM's upgrade turbo is the only drop in replacement for the greddy turbo. Plus it's a much nicer turbo with more power. Since you said you want 100% reliable, I would recommend selling off the greddy turbo and replacing it right off the bat. Otherwise you'll find the journal bearings wearing after 5-15k miles and you'll be smoking at the stop lights. It's easier to do it properly the first time around.

I would recommend Mazsport. They're in Largo (Saint Petersburg).

Pricing Issue

Price is not an issue when it comes to getting what I want.
I gave it some serious though and decided i'll do the exhaust stuff now as its horribly inexpensive. My only issue was I spent about $30,000 in parts, labor, tuning a few months back. I wasn't sure I was

A: Ready to do it again
or
B: Ready to turn my DD into a DD but ... with a bit more..

Honestly the budget range is $20,000-28,000 for FI/Susp/Trans
Which based on everything will get me there but I was really looking for that "something special" rather then slapping on a kit everyone else uses.

And as far as quickly doing work to the car.
My bikes all have Graves built motors.
Everyone single car I have makes AT LEAST 500HP to the wheels.
I drive on avrg 100MPH on the highway.
I've gone over 200MPH on my own cars.
(Yes , i've lost my lisc 3 times

I like to go fast and as amazing as this car is it's just so god damn slow, heh.
Anyways thanks for the info: It looks like I have 3 or so names I need to call and chat with on the phone.

You guys all have a meet in the summer sometime right?
I wish I could time it so this thing is done by then but I doubt it.

Ya, no way in hell i'm going to use that turbo in the kit.
It's just not what i'm looking for.
MM's upgrade turbo system looks nice.
The Mazsport turbo looks nice.
I'm just curious if I can go bigger as long as the other work is done to support that.
475-500WHP in an 8 would be a lot of fun. (Given, yes I DO realize how big of a number that is for this car....but really thats only at the moment i'm sure you give it a few years and suddenly the 350 people make now and say "WoW" won't be as amazing.)

It's not so much about price, but finding the right tool for the job. Since I haven't seen a stock renesis engine producing a dyno chart with > 400 whp, right now the best turbo is the gt3071r that MM sells. Quick spool, nice flow, no headaches or problems.

since you have the budget, the mazsport kit is also really nice. The higher price point means it's not going to be installed on everyone's car and will make your car more unique.

Only reason Scott at Mazsport says they didnt push past 361hp or so is because the customer requested 350.

I bet they could figure out a way to do those kind of numbers.

honestly...

what you're looking for is a 20B swap. PM angeljoelv

a turbo 20b swap will cost you about $20k-$28k, and then you'll get you 450whp easily.

That's funny over 100mph in Fl.

Ever been there before.

We will come see you in jail, unless you get manslaughter and the death penalty for killing some retired people on the Highway.

My folks are down there plus other friends.

heh. I hit 100 almost every time I drive the rx8 and get on the highway. I am not able to go at 100 for long, but it's nice to push it and wind it up a bit. I even got caught over 100 once on 75.
