Question Superchargers/Turbo Question

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions. I have a 2005 RX-8 (AT) and I just want to increase the horse power in it. I am hearing alot of advantages and disadvantages with superhchargers and turbos.

I am open to any suggestions here, I just want to give my car a little more juice when I am driving and I just want to know the best way that does not harm my car in the long run and a way that is not to costly as well.

Thank you.

Now if you tried searching you will find numerous threads addressing this. You are also too general. What do you expect??? How much are you willing to spend??? Are you mechanically inclined??? There are successful S/C a/ts and successful Turboed a/ts maybe all you want is Nos. If you really just want to keep costs down as you wrote then leave it stock as FI is a large expense. I suggest that you read the multitude of threads on the subject and then come back and ask your questions.

very good note's Phil. You saved me some typing.

Kim,
Phil has a SC'd 8 and I have a TC'd 8.
So far my total sunk cost has been $3500.
Do some more reading, then you will have a better idea of what your end goal will be.

Thanks guys for the advice on doing some more research. I am a chick as you all know so I dont know that much about car engines. I was reading yesturday on some threads on superchargers & turbos but like I said in my orignal thread, I hear bad and good about it. I dont want anything to damage my car in the long run. That is why I decided to see if anyone could give me some advice which you all did.

My price that I am looking at is around 2K. I will do alot more research before purchasing anything for my car.

Thanks again everyone, hope you all have a great day.

Regardless, any form of FI will decrease the life expectancy of your engine.

And for $2k you can't go turbo/sc, you can do NOS..

The realistic answer is that each system has it's benefits and faults. No one system is always going to be the best. The key is to identify what you want from the car and make an educated decision from there. Too often it turns into an argument over one being better than the other. Typically these people will be so adamant in their position that they'll completely rule out any other alternatives under any cicumstances. I like each system. They can both be nice. In the end it's your car and you'll need to decide what works best for you. For every system recommended here, you'll get someone that disagrees.

Kim, 09 Factor is correct for 2 grand I think you can get set up with NOS somewhere in that price range. Do a little reading and then find someone with your desired setup and PM them for information. If it's NOS be sure and contact Charles R. Hill he is our resident expert with NOS (among other things) (and he's single).

Yup, if you want to start a flaming war then do your posting on this subject - it's best just to ask little questions with your post and big questions by PM to someone that knows about the system your interested in.

And then stare at it for a few days until you realize you need to sink another $2k - $6k into it to make it run without smoke/detonation/smells/pieces falling off.

lol----i would suggest driving the car a little while and thinking about why you want more power? Then go from there.

holy crap. I'd love to see the cashier's face at Home Depot as you purchased $2,000 of duct tape.

I would say a $2k budget and wanting significant performance (acceleration) returns would point to nitrous. It wouldn't be the first $2k I put into the car, but it'll get the job done.

lol if you're asking those questions and dont know anything about car engines i really suggest you not to do any type of forced induction. What if something goes wrong? Would you be able to inspect it and know how to deal with it? First educate yourself a little more about it and see from there. And being a girl does not excuse you for not knowing about car engines , i know a lot of female mechanics and they are very smart and even teaches me things sometimes. Stereotyping will never end if you enforce it.

If you not prepared to blow your motor, and you only have $2k, my advise is to stay away from any form of mechanical forced induction.

wise words indeed .

You say yopu just want a "little more" - sounds like a job for MazdaManiac and his access port .
another 10-15 hp for less than a grand and no worries anbout your engine ...

Almost forgot - we need pics of you with your 8 to verify that you are in fact a female and you own an 8

Hi all,

Does anyone know the paint code for an 05? I travel alot on the highway for work and there has been alot of construction going on and I have frigin knicks on the hood of my car and I am pisssssed!

Does anyone here have a black 05' on here that knows the paint code? I searched my vehicle and could not find it, someone told me that I may be able to find it there but I had no luck.

Any advice or suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks,
~ Kim

Sure no problem!
The first thing to remember about Mazda paint codes is that the paint code on the door jamb is usually not the same as the touch up paint code...The paint code on the door jamb is what Body Shops and such use to order paint from paint vendors or to obtain the paint formula to mix the paint themselves.
Anyway, the following is a list of the body paint codes from the door jam and the corresponding touch up paint codes.
Name Body paint code Touch up paint code
Brilliant Black A3F PZ
Lightning Yellow A4J 93
Nordic Green 27C 97
Sunlight Silver 22V 68
Titanium Gray 29Y 66
Velocity Red 27A 87
Winning Blue 27B 94
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Marshall

We will meet or beat any advertised Mazda Dealer Price.

I did a quick search and found this. Most of your questions can be answered by a search. Not sure if they are still a forum vendor but at least the paint codes are there.

Lol to 09 Factors comment.

Thanks Phil for the prompt response. I will have one of my guy pals help me find this paint at an autobody store if not then I will go to a Mazda Dealership and refer the brilliant black code that was mentioned above.

Thanks again for your help. You da man!
