Yeah pretty much. An engine swap is the only way to go if you want to make more than 325HP reliably.

I'm sure you can 20b for less than 30k

I don't understand how this is so expensive, even the Hymee supercharger kit is $12300

In Australia we cannot transplant a 20B for road use and you can only put a REW into a 2003 model. I am not sure how these guys will achieve 500HP at the wheels however, it will be interesting to see the results when they get there.

We have all seen similar claims before and they have turned out to be failures however, these guys have a good track record. I do understand that this power will be based on using E85 which is not really ideal for daily use due to the lack of bowsers that carry the fuel.

For boost rew absolutely easiest & cheapest way but we need reliable msp engine in my opinion if anybody manages reliable renesis i think the day of 8 pride is begining. How about mazdatrix hybrid msp now has anybody know the details of it ?

who cares where they land ultimately.... they've got a solid mission statement and the community will benefit from it.

LOL @ ANYONE that thinks the REW is the answer to a reliable booted 8. There is a reason the LSx swap is popular with the 7 community. l'm not banging on the REW either. I love that engine. Just saying it is not the solution for reliable boost.

I'd say an REW running 12PSI on a single turbo setup making 330 whp would be more reliable than a renny running 12 psi making 330whp.

Most of the problems the REW units show are either builder-related or tune-related. They can be fairly reliable at power levels the renesis can only dream about!

I'd say your pretty close shady, I made 363 @16.

I daily drive around town @ 12psi which is about in that 330 area.

Still enough to spin the tires in 3rd gear and scare the kids in the back seat :lol:

I'm not comparing the MSP to the REW. So everyone step back and put their daggers away.

My opinion is that a stock renesis block should only be boosted to around 7-8psi max . on a good tune . With some internal mods 12 psi could very well be reliable but so few of us have actually done the necessary mods it's hard to say for sure right now. I'll let you know in a few years :)

As far as 500whp being reliable - I'm just as skeptical as anyone I but live in hope ....

Just spoke to Rodney at PAC performance..

Pretty damn surprising!!

1. 500hp is actually at the rears not the flywheel!
2. Kit is completely compatibly with S2 8's
3. They are installing the kit on an auto 8 right now
4. They have tuned a haltech for an S2 GT in the past and are using haltech for this set up
5. The price is 30k, with full rebuild included in the price, rebuild is basically strengthening all internals, custom fabricated apex seals used in PAC race cars tailored for the 8, etc..
6. Kit has and is still being used in 3 cars to date, one being mazda motorsports targa 8, which has still had no problems.
7. Rodney says "I can pretty much guarantee, that as long as nothing stupid (i.e running on low oil) happens to the car, you won't have any problems.

500hp no way jose, not with that small of a turbo.

We've been making some solid progress on our ‘Project 500’ RX8 build, working on the car after hours and in-between the usual day-to-day jobs. As always, customer jobs come first and our own toys a close second…

Our fabricator Ross has now finished off the turbo mounting side of things including mounting of the Turbosmart 45mm Hyper Gate and fabricating a three inch dump pipe. Everything is tucked up nice and neat to ensure clearance is never an issue whilst still retaining ease of access.

With the Garrett turbo mounted in place Ross then moved onto the cooling and intake side of things, fabbing up alloy piping for the front mount intercooler. You can also see in this photo the start of the turbo air intake that will run into the standard air box.

The intercooler itself is a chunky Pac Performance four inch bar and plate unit that will have no issues cooling the charged air. Mounted via custom brackets it sits in a V-Mount position to ensure no loss of flow through the radiator core.
To ensure there is ample flow through the intercooler ducting and baffles will me put in place to help guide fresh air through the core. This mounting style was used on the Mazda Australia Targa Tasmania cars with great results for both intake and water temps whether the cars were cruising or going flat out.

The radiator is also upgraded as part of the package, with a quality alloy PWR unit taking place of the original core.

Apart from a quick tidy up of the ports, new Pac Performance seals and extra dowels the engine as Mazda intended. Rather than go crazy with the engine itself the bulk of the power increase will come from the carefully-selected bolt-ons and of course the all-important tune via the Haltech PS2000 ECU.

Lastly we also received the Mazdaspeed front bar that’s part of the package and will be fitted to ‘Project 500’. On top of the much cleaner and meaner look it will give the car it also offers increased air flow to the entire cooling system.

Nice fab work, what are you doing for and engine mount? That's not a Mazdaspeed front bumper, BTW. It would be sad to see a shop in the industry using knock off parts.
