Could you guys elaborate on installing the NGK 5255 (bur9eqp) plugs ? When i switched to them originally (before I was boosted) I installed them into all 4 positions without any shims. The car seemed to run fine this way ? Is this correct ?

If it was installed incorrectly... maybe now I'm thinking that when I got boosted, this is the reason why I was getting some misfiring in the upper rev range ??

From what I have read and been told, the BUR9EQP (NGK-5255 IIRC) in the trailing position without shims will bottom out in the spark plug hole and can **** up the housings. I think you need about 2mm worth of shims but you better measure them and double check first. Proper prior planning man.

sorry for the confusion.

picked up the plugs from the local checkers for 6.50 each... shims for less than a dollar at city mill

That's what I did, I didn't want to mes with shims at the time since I had a full set of new RX-8 plugs.

i use the denso's--they work better for me and seem to last longer. You can clean them with a small ultrasonic cleaner

The RX8 runs again !!!!!!!!!! Very happy right now, 72 euros for spark plugs is alot cheaper than 37k for the 328i I test drove after I thought I blew my motor... lol. Turns out it was a combination of a charge pipe coming off after the maf, the spark plugs dying, and the motor being super flooded. I dont know I think just in the heat of the moment once they car went crazy on the autobahn when I was doing the log, first thing that popped into my head was 'apex seal'. ---I hear enough rotary & apex seals jokes here from my friends in Germany, I guess I was almost expecting that to be the problem.

Well..... onto the next tuning session. Thank you guys so much for your guidance !

Haha, I am willing to bet at some point in Rotary Redliner (and my) FI days, our engine will too one day die.

It's just too addictive to be conservative.
