Rebuild time. Rotor 1 lost compression at the drags on wednesday
|
Bummer .... rebuild him better and stronger then add moar bewst !
|
That is the plan. So lots of research to do and money to save before the rebuild starts.
I wonder if a hybrid RX7 housings will work? |
Wondering the same ting, and have valves that actuate at a given RPM. Challenge would be to get the cavity as small as possible, and still flow efficient.
|
It works so great that everybody has them ...

Aparently the Mazdatrix engine is still going strong. Not sure if others have replicated the idea.
|
Prelim prices for rebuild is going to be around $12 000.00

Engine will actually cost $10k and the rest is for installation and shipping of the original core. I am still looking at other options before making final decision.
The engine will have new housings, rotors with 3mm seals, porting, dowles, lapped end plates, oil and water gallaries modified. |
Now looking to rebuild the engine in my garage with the help of someone that has done a fantistic job of rebuilding his own engine with similar upgrades to what I want.
The wish list is as follows: New housings New Rotors 2mm RX7 seals ( more research required) side seals to be clearanced end plated lapped and nitrite Mild porting ( racing beat template?) Coolant and oil galleries modified Cleaning up the LIM casting marks Studs More research still to be done |

Making slow progress. Not far from pulling the engine. I will send the engine to the builder soon and install it myself.
I have never done anything as major as this before so I am hoping it will work out. So far its going ok. |
In case you didn't see my thread ................ suggest solid corner seals to go with the 2mm rx7 deep apex seals !
|
Things have slowed down on the build front. I put my rebuild money into the stock market and it went the wrong way. Hopefully, things will be back on track soon.
|
Today I purchased a used engine with 86 000km on the clock. The plan is to rebuild and get the car back on the road with fresh seals
|
Any advise on apex seal. I would like something aftermarket however, I dont want something that will wear the housings.
Most aftermarket apex seals are for drag and race use where they rebuild often. I want my engine to last over 100 000km Engine is with the mechanic now so need some advise soon. I had some seals in mind however, the supplier said it will wear the housings faster than stock |
Decided to go with stock apex seal
|
Engine has been ported stronger springs for corner seals and extra dowels.
Supercharger kit sent to Bullet cars to service the sprintex and apply fixes for oil leaks and resolve the faulty bypass system |
Any details on the corner seal springs you used ?
|
Rx7 springs I believe

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...31977265db.jpg Damage from broken apex seal. About 2cm broke off the corner seal |
Very little wear on side plates and exhaust port look very clean. Motor had done 148 000km.
50 000km of it was boosted |

My housings form the stock blown engine shows a lot of carbon deposit on the housing. Any idea on the cause?
The apex seals where worn at and angle not sure if that is normal? |

The dark patches indicate that the apex seal is lifting in those areas |

It may be my imagination however, the apex seal seems to sit at an angle as it sweeps around and as a result it has more wear on one side.

Tried to put the engine together however I found that the extra dowels do not line up properly. Could have been machined incorrectly so back to the mechanic to get it corrected.
|
Engine has been assembled. Installed the SOHN kit, pulled out HKS piggyback and ready to get the car back on the road.
I have also used a dremel to clean up the casting marks and made it slightly larger for better flow. Just waiting for a shipment from RX8 performance to arrive before I put everything together. |

Car started up instantly as soon as i turned the ignition. However, had to abort as oil was pouring out of the AN lines as it needed tightening. Will have another go tomorrow after filling the oil again.

Done over 1000km on the engine. I will service the car tomorrow.
I am having difficulty in revving past 8000rpm. I suspect exhaust restriction from collapsed resonators or exhaust. I have also purchased a low mileage series 2 fuel tank and will do the swap soon. Also looking to get aftermarket ignition coils and relocated to the chassis rail. Once these upgrades have been installed then the supercharger will be installed and tuned. |
In the process of switching to series 2 fuel pump and also ordered LS coils and it will be relocated to the chassis rail.
I am also finding that my vacuum at idle changes each time i drive. Some times it is at -10 and some times it is at -5 and sometimes at almost zero. I have checked the vacuum lines for leaks and also sprayed maf cleaner around the injectors to detect vacuum leaks. The strange this is the variable nature of the vacuum Any clues on whats wrong or is it normal. Most people do not have vacuum gauges on a stock car so its not monitored. |
Hymee Supercharger fit an R3 RHD?
Guys n Gals
Will a US hymee superchager fit a 2009 R3 in the UK ? Right hand drive :dunno: but would like to buy ne if so |
It should fit. A number of kits where shipped to US and I believe there where some for sale
|
^---- thanks team. I'm including marks fixes and updates and my unit for sale has the larger 2.1L blower.
|
My kit has be modified to fix the following issues:
new bypass machined block off for original bypass machined channels for better flow for oil around bearings larger gauge oil return line Machined for more bolts to prevent leaks The changes have been documented on the forum before. |
I had the vacuum lines to the VDI and SSV connected wrongly and it was causing loss of power at high rpm.
Now its running perfectly. Also switched to series 2 pump which involved some modifications for a full swap. |
the old vac line switcheroo trick ! Glad you found it man .
|
Certainly was a big relief !!

Drove the car today and the high RPM issue surfaced again. I will see how it goes tomorrow
