rx8 turbo legal in TX?

i am living in houston TX
i am trying to buy esmeril turbo or greddy with cobb.(any discount now?)
but i am wandering about the inspection.
if i put the turbo in my 8 , can i pass the emission?
i saw Engine check light on turbo 8 . maybe because of midpipe.
please answer me thanks.

Yes you an pass emissions but it depends on the entire setup, tune, etc. Besides there are always shops that will pass you regardless of your mods.

I just passed emissions 2 days ago. The only precaution I took was I put the stock midpipe with the cat back in. The car drew a crowd of all the techs in the garage, but they passed it!

It only has to pass an OBD test, not a visual ....

If you are in a county that requires emissions testing, at the very least you must not have any CELs. From what I've heard, the Cobb will eliminate any CELs related to the turbo kit.

So Esmeril w/ interceptor (assuming CEL not resolved) would not pass an inspection in a county requiring emissions, etc. (Harris, Travis, etc.).

That depends on your goals or desires. Power delivery is different compared to the 2. There are some dyno sheets posted of each setup on this forum. Take a look and you will get a better idea. Don't just focus on numbers either. Focus on the power and torque curves and area under the curves. It will show the usable power.

If at all possible take a ride in a SC'd car and a TC'd car. Probably not the easiest to do, but that will help your decision immensely. What it comes down to however is what you want the most. I didn't have the luxury of taking a ride in either a SC'd car or a TC'd car myself. So I had to do some research on here to see what I thought I would enjoy the most. Most likely you will have to do the same.

I dont see any way to pass a sniff test without the cat! My car stinks w/o the cat in, its pretty obvious when its not there!

they don't do a sniff test, they just plug into the OBD plug and look for codes, etc.

understand that passing the OBD test and being legal are not the same thing
