Ported renesis engine plus a 150 n2o shot will land me 350rwhp non-turbo..

having done TONS of motors in fc's, fd's, and the 8's, i'll tell you i'd rather do a motor in an 8 than anything. EVERYTHING is really modular now. you can pull a motor from a stock car (nothing removed) in about 2-3 hours, and even less time if you hustle. no more pulling harnesses through the firewall. :D

installing them is almost as easy too.

What ever happened to this project? This was years ago, wondering if anyone here has gone close to doing what "Mr P&P" claimed he will be doing?

Porting? Would that even give any gains? I thought you cant port the exhaust ports because of the water jacket? You probably can...just very little. Oh and Wow you just brought back a VERY old thread rofl .

Don't know what happened to this project but I can see this happening in the near future using BHR Ignition Module to retard the timing during spray.

<keeping my fingers crossed>

ino porting can and has been done, but has anyone done anything like mentioned about this type of bridgeporting on a renesis?

150 shot into our engine wont ever work. we dont have the displacement to accept a 150 shot. it just wont work.

lol I brought it up because I am interested in trying to do a street port in the renesis.

The quote in your post is correct. You can't port a renesis. Not even a street port. About all you can do is go in and clean/smooth up the ports.

Did you attempt it, or read this?

This goes back to RotaryGod's attempt to port Charles R. Hill's engine. This was done last summer. The intake ports are large enough so some smoothing was what was mostly done there. The exhaust ports are the ones that could use enlarging. But, when he tried, he keep braking into the water jackets. These jackets are large and near the surface around the exhaust ports for cooling purposes. This makes any significant changes in the exhaust ports impossible. You can't even streetport a Renesis. All you can do is clean up and smooth these ports.

Given that the port shape controls the duration and timing of the opening, a bridgeport is probably akin to driving around on a race cam in a reciprocating engine. I've never ridden or driven a bridgeported REW, but I'd imagine that the driveability of it goes to crap. I personally would not do something like that on a street car.

Then again, were you to bridgeport the intake ports successfully, what would be your plan to get your exhaust ports large enough to balance it out? Is there a specific reason why you would want to shift your torque curve higher up in the rpm range? I don't think you could actually increase the VE of the engine (it's already capable of topping 100%) so I don't know if a full porting would be able to produce any increase in peak torque. I guess if you make peak torque 1000 rpms higher, you do have more power but the car in DD use would probably actually be slower.

So - what would you exactly be looking for that you think drastically altering the intake/exhaust geometry will do?

Right now, with a pre-loaded MM map from the Cobb we saw some VERY interesting torque characteristics. For example, with a 3" catless midpipe, a Borla cat-back, and the factory air filter/airbox, my engine was STILL making significant amounts of torque at 9,500 rpms. The plan is to max the rev limit out at 10,000 and see what the torque curve looks like. For certain, there is MUCH improved driveability and 25 mpg on the X-way. As for roll-on and tip-in torque; I don't downshift from 6th gear to pass anybody. Further, my car continues the acceleration from 100-135 as it does from 70-100. So, from 70-135 it is a steady pull with no power drop. Both MM and tdiddy can attest to this and MM was actually humored by the fact that my dash chimes LONG before the engine runs out of power OR rpms.
Very interesting... it would be nice if the torque output above 6500 RPM could be improved significantly on NA 8s. Right now the way the car is geared after you up-shift from redline you're already past the engine's torque peak.

Hey Ray with that super light flywheel with those HP and very fast revving renny do you recommend putting a scatter shield or a ballistic blanket around the tranny housing?

Equally important as the porting is the tuning that MM has done with the Cobb. Remember, I am using a basic map included in his stuff. He hasn't yet had a chance to play with a ported Renesis so there may be some new info he can glean from his time with my car. While that is going on we will also be installing a BHR flywheel/clutch kit on HIS car and we can get his input on the difference a reduction of 8 lbs. of rotating mass can make. I already know.
Really looking forward to the details!
