New Engine Time need some help

Ok guys, some of you have been through a new engine. I think Jeff has it down pat, talk to me. I need suggestions. I ate a seal today. Ping = BAD. At least I was still able to drive it home 10 miles.

Things I am looking for:

1. People to come out and swap with me
2. Where to get a good engine at a reasonable cost
3. Shoulders to cry on

I want to do this right, so I will not cut corners, but I am not looking to break the bank either (that includes no shipping fees to Florida). And no, I am not going to put it back to stock and take it to the dealer. I am not a scumbag.

Know a good place to find wrecker engines? I am a little concerned about a Mazmart rebuild, because I don't know how badly my engine is damaged yet, and if the housings are trashed, suddenly that becomes a very expensive option.

That really sucks.... you should take the engine apart to see what exactly is wrong with it.

My car isn't smoking, and will start with a little difficulty. If someone wants to pull it apart to see what happened that's fine with me, but I am not the person to be able to figure it out personally. I have my suspicions, but anyways.

Oakland is a 45 minute flight or 8 hour ish drive.

As down as I am right now, it really makes me feel much better knowing there are some cool guys in the community that are willing to pull together and help me get back on the road. You guys FOOKING ROCK!

CRH Let's find an engine and do it, or have enough spare parts to replace whatever is trashed on mine.

Jeff, it is a 4 hour drive, or I can get a cheap flight for you, your choice.

Scott, Thanks for the PM and your concern.

Funny side note, my engine still goes into boost... just about 4-500 RPMs later.

I'll help.

Try Mazda Trix for parts or a new engine. They are in Signal Hills, out side Long Beach.

If you time this right...

You can come out early, repair the engine, then Dyno on 4/26/08.

Maybe start the rebuild on the 23rd?

Sorry tohear about this. Welcome to the broken engine club. Exclusive club that nobody wants to be a part of.

I got my engine from Mazmart as well. Got an 06 (back in early 07') engine from a wrecked RX8 with less than 2K miles, not a rebuild. Talk to Paul over there, he is really a good guy to work with, and the transaction was smooth.

Sorry to hear about the problems man. Good luck with the situation.

Isn't Rotary Reliability out near you (Anaheim) ? Heard they do go work. I got my clutch from Mazdatrix, they were pretty cool, but I hear they charge an arm & a leg. When I had blown my engine I checked into having TriPoint (out in San Fernando Valley) do it, but they wanted an arm & a leg (though still cheaper than the dealership).

My sympathies!

I grenaded my first engine with less than 7k on the odometer.

There is a fair chance that I've blown another one, but I don't have the chops to tell for sure.

Since I had mine ported, I would rather keep my current engine...but if the rotor housing is buggered, then so am I.

BHR to the rescue!

I actually am fortunate to have quite a few shops nearby. Rotary Reliability are actually pretty good buds of mine, and Mazdatrix ain't that far either.

I am seeing if I can find a good engine first. If that is the case, then I will just swap. If not, I will probably have the crew come over camp at my place for a few days and rebuild.

I have contacted Paul, and maybe he will find me something. I also am trying to figure out what happened to GuitarJunkie's Renesis. If the family just has it laying around, I would buy it, but I think that engine went to Mr. Axial Flow.

Damn, slavearm. Your 8 is my favorite on this site.

I really look forward to seeing your new setup. Maybe you can even get more power out of it.

I have a few people looking for engines for me now. Mazmart has one, but... I don't think a rebuild is very economical for me at this point, because I am pretty sure I trashed a housing or two when the seal went, which makes the cost of a rebuild pretty expensive.

Mazmart would love to make me an engine with reworked rotors to hold in the REW APEX seals, but that is at least a month out, and I don't want to be without my ride for that long, and I am almost 100% certain the issue I had was due to PING, which is not something that will be happening with my new engine.

Also, it is worthwhile to note, that I had one of the very first RX8 engines in my car, which means I beat the living snot out of it when it was not drinking enough oil. Which probably didn't help much.
