Cool Maximize NA

Anyone out there going all out in the NA direction? I want to know because I am trying to get the most out of my Renesis without using 5 PSI of boost of FI. I heard what turbo charge engines do after 100,000 miles do. ....um....them quit ....and or the turbo goes bad and other oddly engine problems......

What i have done so far:

Hyperground wire kit
voltage stabilizer kit
AEM CAI
JIC DE type 2 catback

Plans to:

piggyback .....APEXI SAFC......interceptor X
headers by RE Amemiya or FEED
AEM ignition (25,000 x more sparks)....kinda like or is MSD

doing the turbo is to easy.....except the cash portion.......Take pride and go NA....like the HONDAs that are running low 12 and 12 with a VTEC integra motor......

You won't even break 13 going all motor. I hate to break the news to you, but with every NA mod out there you wouldn't gain more than 40-50whp. You might want to get a lightweight flywhee, lightweight wheels, no bodykit, 4.777 final drive, race pipe, and titanium exhaust if you do indeed want to keep it NA.

I think the Race Team out of Italy (forgetting name at the moment) is the only group of people who have made major HP improvements while remaining NA. You may want to see what they did, but it ain't gonna be cheap.

OUt of all the mods you've done so far, you probably haven't gotten anything noticable in terms of real world power. The Interceptor-X is the biggest gain you will get n/a and it does have the ability to get you in the 13's. Not deeply though.

Don't touch the S-AFC. That thing is a piece of junk. I have no idea why anyone anywhere uses that thing on any car. It stands for Stupid-Air Fuel Calculator, or Stupid Air Flow Computer. It's all appropriate.

You've wasted a lot of money with those parts, and will waste a lot more with your upcoming parts. It's like all the parts that we have shown to add minimal hp, you have, or will add. Only the AEM CAI has shown to add hp of the parts you have, and the JIC for better sound.

By the time you toss ALL that money into N/A mods especially if you are paying for installation could have easily gotten yourself a turbo kit. It seems like you haven't done much in the way of research before slappin **** on your car. You got a lot of enthusiam, but you're blinded by your passion.

There's no reason not to tune for max N/A performance if you really want that and understand that you won't be getting as much power as someone who goes with forced induction. I (probably along with others) have always wondered what the engine could do with:
Intake/Catback/Midpipe/Header/Pullies/EMS/Lightweight flywheel/Lightweight rotors/ etc... Then when Renesis porting becomes more regulary practiced, add that on. Add it all up, see what you get! Do it in the name of research though, it might make you feel better about spending all that money.

wasn't it said that you can get around 4 hp from headers? Not exactly something to go crazy over.

Buy an Interceptor X and a midpipe, then drive to Houston and let RG port your engine. Do a flywheel since the engine is out anyway. Switch to a 4.77 gear or put on some 17" wheels like olddragger did.

headers don't do much for our car sadly. spend money elsewhere unless you've done everything already.

For some reason I thought I'd read that AEM didn't add.. and only Revi/duct added like 3 hp or something.. Basically, that an intake wasn't even worth getting (summarizing some posts I'd read before)

revi should had some hp, but the duct will help give you cooler air. sound difference from stock is about the same, just slightly deeper. over 6k rpm it bellows.

Import Tuner recenty did one of their "Power Pages" writeup on a few RX8 products and the REVi alone gave 4 hp gain, they did not test it with the Ram Air Duct. Polak did a write up for RX Tuner magazine and also got some good gains with the REVi unit (like 10 hp at some points). If you are looking for massive gains from 1 or 2 NA parts on this car you will be disappointed.

If you did a street port on the Renesis, gave it a full 3" exhaust (new header, cat / decat, and catback), did either AEM or REVi, pullies, and everything else people above have said, and threw in some tuning and dyno time, your car would be pretty fast. It wouldn't have a whole lot of bottom end, but would probably scream in the top.

Look up the thread that Oldragger had about exhaust port optimization. I can't remember the name of it though. It will give the exhaust a better flow, which will make the other exhaust mods worthwhile.

LOL!!!!!!

I love NA...but it's true, Turbo/SC is more cost effective while yes not tuned right it will hurt reliablity. Scott's new Turbo Kit makes 300whp at 5psi...which is just a Spiced up NA considering how low the psi is.

Unless you are going 3-rotor NA becomes a poor bang for your buck on this rotary at least. I love NA, but I think Turbo is the best choice right now. If anything...For the love of NA, I'll just get the new Camaro when it comes out.

The LS...is an engine that loves NA parts and produces ALOT of power.

The greddy turbo is so small that I haven't heard of lag being an issue.

A Renesis running 5psi, like Scott's 300whp turbo, is NOT a "spiced" up NA. If you need auxillary engine management, it is a whole new ball game. Period. An improperly tuned 5psi Renesis will blow just as readily as an improperly tuned 12psi Renesis. And I'd wager a very carefully and well done tune of a 12psi Renesis will outlive any rushed, crappy tune of a 5psi Renesis.
