Marcux's turbo install thread

So Today the turbo goes in wish me luck! I'll take pictures.

The following are being installed..

Greddy turbo kit with Fix#2 with HKS SSQV Bov Recirc
Cobb Accessport with MM Maps
Custom CAI with 3.5 dia and 6" from each side of MAF and Injen Filter.
Greddy Oil Pan
Greddy Catch Can
Greddy Profec E-01 Boost controller set to 6 psi.
Greddy 1.3 Bar Radiator Cap
New NGK Spark Plugs
HKS turbo Timer
3" Turbo XS Racepipe and Exhaust
6 Qt of Royal Purple 5w30
Some Redline water wetter running pure water.

That should be everything, hoping to make it somewhat reliable at 6 Psi without any major issues.

The guy i'm having the install done with has done hundreds of turbo installs and tunes including 2 rx7's. This will be his first 8.

I'm really excited about finally going FI I've been wanting it since I bought my 8. It's a good thing I have a winter beater in the meantime.

After this I have some Tokico D-Spec adjustable shocks, Tein-S Springs, ACT Xact Streetlite Flywheel and ACT MZ010 Pressure Plate to install.

Should be an interesting week for my 8.

will take more than a day to install that lot .
some good choices there , you will enjoy it

If you are only going to run 6psi I would ditch the boost controller and just adjust the actuator spring . Boost controllers are the reason a lot of people (including me) end up killing their engine

All that is left is the piping, intercooler, and electronics. Which Hopefully will get done today. then comes the keyturn.. hopefully no boom!

how do you figure? I'll take the bc over spring any day. Just don't be a dumbass and turn it to 100% on all the settings

Well, everything is done, finished the piping, intercooler, and custom intake mani which was a HUGE pain, I have the maf 6" after the filter, but only 2 inches from the coupler after the MAF, I hope that's not going to be a problem. Ran into another problem. I didn't know you could only dispay so many maps on the Accessport, It told me to delete a few maps before I could flash, so I have to leave it for tonight so I can go back home and delete a few.., Last thing, I guess the boost controller power connector is missing, so, I have to open the box and solder on a +/- power wire to it. all of which will bed done tonight, so I can turn the key tommorow morning.

Very cool. My install just got finished today. Tomorrow I'm dropping by the shop to flash my AP with base maps and replace the coils/plugs/wires. Are you recirculating your sqv?

Hopefully tomorrow will go well for both of us (fingers crossed).

Yeah, I've been noticing that myself. a lot of people getting boosted, I feel safer with the AP, mabey that's it. Right now my bov isn't recirc, I'm planning on it, just want to get the car running first, then I'll be running a coupler. Same thing here, Key turn tomorrow, let's hope for the best, I'm just hoping that I did the intake correctly, 6 inches 3.5 dia front of MAF, but could only do 2 inches 3.5 diag behind MAF because of lack of space. Hopefully that 2 inches is enough since it's behind the MAF.

Doh! I was going to suprise you clavius! The installer I have is really good.
Also, for the intake, I found a 3.5" Dia chrome tail pipe at pepboys, cut the hole in it for the MAF, and fastened it down, I'll post pics asap. Key turn today, everything is installed except Turbo AP map (which is a flash away) and had to rewire boost controller. Soon as it's plugged in, I turn the key (with the eccentric shaft position sensor wire removed, so it won't start) to get oil to the turbo. Make sure nothing leaks, and then start her up. and cross my fingers

It LIVES!, Flawless, No Oil leaks, No exhaust Leaks.. it just works. It started up with the first turn of the key. Idle is dead on perfect, I think it idles better with the turbo kit than it did NA. I need to set the Boost controller, and send a datalog to MM next. and On Jan 2nd put in the new suspension. This is an awesome New years Eve gift

By the way, the guy that installed my kit was great, lives in New Hampshire. He didn't stop until everything was perfect. He basically tossed the greddy heat wrap and bought better, then wrapped the whole footwell area near the turbo. Said the Rx8 was really easy to install turbo kit compared to alot of cars he's done.

Might be a small bit of stall.

We had one on the FD for a while - and it didn't sound like that on a good pull; but in vac and at idle/off-idle it would stall a bit.
