NM i want to do an upgraded rebuild

I have an 04 rx8 and I think its about time to rebuild it, but I was wondering what I can do to get the most performance out of the car starting inside. What can I do for maximum horsepower? Your knowledge will be greatly appreciated....

Get a turbo, or swap the motor.

Ofcourse, you can always talk to Esmiril about internal engine mods and porting and upgraded apex seals lightweight rotors, etc. It will cost alot and still not have extraordinary results. Turbo is the lowest budget high horsepower upgrade. You just need to do it properly. Read up on the site, you posted in the section with the most information on the subject, so take a look at a few of the posts and begin researching.

no easy answers on this one....tubing pretty much summed it up....FI is the best way...personally I'd like a supercharger but will probably go turbo as those are getting cheaper faster

Yea, I'm going SC, but most people think of turbos when they think high power. ZOMG BOV KABOOM PTSSCHHHH, etc.

This happens often on any car forum, but your question is so open ended that it cannot be answered. Let alone the question of why is it "about time"?

Maybe call a reputable engine builder - like Mazmart, for example - and tell them what you are looking for and they can build you an engine that can get you there.

Thanks guys. Is it worth rebuilding with upgraded parts, in the horsepower part, or should I just buy a new one?

That depends on how long you plan to keep the car. There are things you can do with the engine out that will help longevity and add a little power. The Mazmart water pump, updated starter, new engine mounts, underdrive pulley's, header, Sohn Adapter, lighter flywheel, BHR coils, bigger radiator.

I've got to admit. I'm in the same boat. I have 119000+ miles and I'm starting to really consider a rebuild. Mazmart will be hearing from me soon. And so will Pettit.
