Nice, looking forward to it.

8psi with stock ignition. 231 hp, 185 ft/lbs

9krpmrx8 12-22-2015 10:26 PM

Has anyone with a stock 8 ever ran on the dyno that you have results from? That's pretty low. well, really low actually.

slash128 12-22-2015 10:35 PM

Agreed those numbers seem low. No offense but that seemed to take for.e.ver to wind up. Don't take it the wrong way, just surprised that was an 8 psi pull. The flames were fun though. Keep at it! :)

If you've still got a catalytic converter I recommend taking it out if that's an option. Removal really helps spool up and is much healthier for a turbo application. If you do this watch your boost levels after the de-cat as they'll be much higher than they were before.

yes i think so around 175hp but i would have to verify with thewird he is the guy doing the tuning and the dyno pulls. also i only posted that as an update for the thread. after waiting so long it was good to see it at least running. we encountered some issues which resulted in the lower numbers we see, and will re-post over the winter.

Good update! It is satisfying to see it running after you've spent a lot of time on it. Keep going, I'm excited to see more!!!

Oh okay, well that explains it.

it's a gutted cat so shouldn't be an issue i would think.

Brettus 12-23-2015 12:53 PM

what sort of issues did you have?

when we finally hit the dyno we lost compression on front bank during a power pull, the motor now needs a rebuild. Thewird thinks it was a piece of carbon that came loose. was hoping to get a year before rebuild.... guess not. the video wouldn't have been the final pull

9krpmrx8 12-25-2015 10:14 AM

Piece of carbon that came loose? Oh Boy. Good luck. You should send us your tune to have a look at. My guess is that it was a tuning issue, not a carbon issue.

Sakebomb ignition and ATP wastegate

yurcivicsux 03-23-2016 04:00 PM

Okay so spring is here and the build is making some progress including a full engine rebuild and tune by thewird

-machined ground plates
-2 new/used housings 40,000km
-2 new/ used rotors 40,000km --EDM wire modified for the larger RX7 apex seals
-RXtuning and performance apex seals
-oil porting mods
-exedy stage 1 clutch
-new ATP wastegate
-Sakebomb coils (AEM marine coils)
-upgraded BNR water cooled turbo
-water/ meth injection?

Can’t wait to get it back…………..

Can you elaborate on this please ?

Also , make sure you get solid corner seals (without the recess)

Sakebomb ignition and ATP wastegate

ATP/SARX wastegate :) I'm glad it will benefit the community, it was a bitch to get done.

On my Pineapple engine he did a porting an clean up of all the oil galleys and he removes the plugs cleans inside the galley in the eshaft, and installs new plugs. In addition to the different regulator.

thanks... we'll see the greddy wastegate proved to be junk, didn't hold boost well.

considering upgrading the turbo to BNR while were at it, the issue is simply cost (exchange rate to CDN) as i have already dumped so much $$ into this already and haven't even drove it at 8 psi. .....as speed is relative the power i get may be just fin for what i want.

Question;
is it so difficult to install the BNR turbo at a later time or should i have it all done now while the engine is out and save my back next year? i have been told the BNR would get me up into the low 300 mark....
i feel like i would be more than happy for the next years with what i have focusing on reliability and the complete package than simply more power.
thoughts?

no it doesn't ... but there is a reason for that . Upgrading the WG fixes the boost problem which is ok for streeting it , but i sure wouldn't be wanting to run a stock greddy on the track at elevated boost.

My ATP actuator just showed up too. Was getting a boost leak through my stock GReddy actuator that wasn't showing up until around 9psi. Will be swapping that out as soon as the snow is gone.

As far as the BNR upgrade goes, if it is at all feasible for you to bite the bullet and pay for it now you'll be thankful for it later down the road. Although some might argue that pulling the turbo isn't ridiculously hard; keep in mind that most people find this to be the most difficult/time consuming aspect of getting the kit installed. I'd say 65% or more of my install time was spent down there.... Of course it all depends on your mechanical abilities and how many times you've done it before (that was my first time installing it and my first major car project). I believe I need to pull my turbo to swap in the new ATP actuator but I'm hoping to get away with just popping the turbo off the manifold and gaining enough room through the wheel well without having to pull the turbo/manifold out altogether.

Hello
I am new to the forum
I installed a greedy kit in my rx-8 was all perfect
I installed a new programmable injection FuelTech
the car is everything perfect however this leaking oil through the rear seal
I changed it for the second time and I think that with a lot of pressure on the bottom
Should I make a bigger breath
anyone ever had this problem?
it only leaks oil at high RPM

thank you

yurcivicsux 03-25-2016 10:54 AM

yes i agree installing the turbo was challenging especially on my back under the car in my small garage. good luck with the wastegate...... not fun.

going to hold off on the BNR for now...... who knows what i will do in a few years. love the idea of it. the exchange rate should come back down in a few years also, right now it's .66 which is a lot as you know.

RotaryMachineRx 03-25-2016 12:16 PM

Yeah I did the install under similar circumstances..... I wan't thinking about exhange rate in my previous post. It's ridiculous.

Also small edit to my last post..... boost leak was WASN'T showing up until 9psi.
