has anyone else had problems with the bottle opener? It doesn't fit, I just got off the phone with ZEX and they said it doesn't work with certain bottle valves. I couldn't believe because the bottle is from them. So i can either get the new "updated" opener, or make it work. I tried using metal tape to wrap around the base of the valve to get it to work but the opener is too strong so I need something else.

I will post pics so you can see what I am talking about.

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I didn't see any "compatibility list" on the site for the bottle opener.

Could you also post up the part numbers for your bottle and your opener?

The guy at ZEX support said they used to ship bottles with different valves and some of those valves did not work with their own opener. The part number is the same but this is the opener I have in the pictures of the instructions. Apparently the new opener is different itself, but I had to talk to like 3 people to get the answer I got.

http://www.zex.com/Instructions/Files/ZEX122.pdf

But basically the little hex collar is too thick so then the cannot tighten the drive gear, notice how the hex part of the bottle valve is very thin and then the hex that comes with the kit is about 1/2" thick.

Well, I was trying to get some replacement decals the other day, and I had two people tell me two different things. Not sure if all the ducks are in a row up there, but it doesn't make sense that they would sell openers that didn't work that didn't work with the bottles they sell. Odd IMO. You going to return the other bottle opener and get the 'new' one?

Well, I bought it used so I am SOL, I am looking into getting the valve on my bottle replaced. I did wrap the valve with metal tape so I could tighten the bottle opener onto the bottle but the force of the opener is too strong and allows it to turn. I have not had a chance to really sit and work on it to see if I can find a better solution. Most of the speed shops here were not helpful at all.

The last component other than figuring out the opener is getting a switch to replace the bottle opener toggle switch since it is heavy duty and has 6 posts.

It works like this:

white to ground
red opens valve
black closes valve

By having power on all the time to the black you kept the solenoid energized which in tern caused all of the heat. The kit comes with a switch that only stays energized momentarily (while you hold it). The center post of switch runs to battery (12v positive)this is the power in to the switch. use one of the outer posts to power the red (or open) valve wire and the other for the black (or closed) valve wire.

These are the taps I used for the white TPS wire

This on the TPS wire (last one on the bottom as the connector is plugged to the TB)

And the just a blade on the white wire with heat shrink

Wish you local shops were more helpful. Have you decided to go with a new valve or new opener yet?

I am going to check it out today, I need to go get a 90 degree fitting. I called nitrousoutlet.com and their only suggestion was to buy the opener they sell

Of course they're going to tell you to buy their product lol! Are you going to run a 90 degree fitting straight off the bottle and add another valve?

When I started buying all the pieces for my kit, the hardest thing was finding the exact connectors that I need, simply because I had no idea what the little bastards were called. Right now I think that I've got everything that I'm going to need minus the actual wires to get everything hooked up. It's just a matter of finally getting home, and getting a weekend off. I hope that I don't run into the same bottle opener issue.

Keep us posted!

I am getting a 90 degree fitting to mount on the bottle to eliminate make routing the line to the bottle a bit cleaner. I will be looking for a new valve this weekend as well. One thing I can also recommend is that I added a connector on the opener using a two wire trailer connector so that I can just unplug it and remove the bottle with the opener on it so that I don't have to remove the opener from the bottle in the trunk to get the tank out. I also highly recommend the type of mount I got, it makes bottle removal so easy.

I have a pretty good fitting and hose place here that I can get stuff from, they just have weird hours and are not open on the weekends.

Has anyone looked into a NANO setup? Supposedly it can make a 10lb bottle last twice as long. Thoughts?

I get the concept of the Nano, and it looks reasonable. It looks like it would be more effective in a system operating shots much larger than 55. It won't make a bottle last twice as long, it just regulates the pressure in such a way as to maintain the shot density longer than you'd be able to with just a bottle warmer.

IMO, would be worth getting if you were running >100 shot, but hey, I'm a big gadget fan, might get one anyway.

the site say you will get twice the runs out of a 10lb bottle, but I mainly like the fact that the shot is consistent thus improving power. I do know from running nitrous on previous cars I have owned and a friends Mustang that you typically do get to use the entire bottle even with a warmer. so even if this allows you to use all the nitrous you are paying for then it is worth the money.

I will have to PM the guy with the R3 that is using it and see what he says now after running it for a while.

Did you ever figure out the opener 9k? Thought I mentioned that problem but it could have slipped my mind. When I talked to CRH when I first came across the problem, he had mentioned that this was a newer opener design and that someone else ran into issue and managed to make it work, though I don't really remember much more than that. Zex wasn't very helpful for me either. Considering they include 2 fittings, it's very stupid that they sell tanks/openers that aren't compatible with their own products. Hope you managed to figure something out for that.

I'm guessing you've talked with Alamo Performance... they seem to be the best source for various performance things like nitrous parts/fills. I actually get my meth from them which is pretty convenient.

Did you ever get a chance to fill up the tank?

Someone did a dyno run but I dont really remember what they made... Feeling wise, it's a nice kick. Definitely noticeable and fun to use. You'll only want to run a 55 shot for the time being though.

I believe the guy I remember who did the dyno pulls made about 240 to the wheels on a 55 shot.n I'd have to search for it but I just read it a while back.

I sort of figured out the opener but the fix is not ideal as the opener still slips from time to time. I am looking for something better to wrap the top of the bottle so the opener won't slip but honestly I haven't had time. I need to get my new suspension on before I can spray anyway so I will wait until that is done and get the bottle filled and fix the opener then. Zex was not very helpful to me either, other than recommending that i buy the new opener,

I am also looking at getting the Nano system to optimize the spray, then I will be a before and after dyno to measure the full effects of the nitrous.
