Esmeril Racing Turbo Options
I was thinking of purchasing the turbo kit from esmeril racing, and it came with some options and i was just wonderinf if it was worth the money . The kit Is $5,495.00 (excluding tax) but with the billet 62mm wheel and Ball bearings its $6,270.00 (excluding tax)
I was wondering if it was worth the money to go with the upgraded set up or not.
thanks,

Hello,
It depends on what your power goals are. The Stock ignition is marginal at best, they are known to fail even on stock engines and most people have had to replace coils once or twice. Mazda did however come out with some improved replacements after the first few years and they are known to be a bit more reliable. That being said, when working properly, the OEM coils will allow you to run up to 12psi without misfiring. this equates to about 350whp when tuned properly (our test car put 366whp down at 13psi). The ignition upgrade is enough to support all that the turbo kit can give as well as provide cleaner, more complete combustion in all general situations.
Best regards,
Chris

To be honest, why NOT pick up the racing ignition upgrade? It'll give you room to grow and a safety net which RX8's desperately need, especially when you're dealing with forced induction. And yes, the ball-bearing upgrade should be almost mandatory. It's such a great improvement for an extra 1,000 dollars that you should do it anyway.

Quality turbos will outlast your vehicle if the oil is keep clean and they are not overheated. I have rebuilt Garrett turbos with over 1 million miles( semi trucks) and they looked immaculate inside. This was also running 34psi...
