i have the pump outlet going to the lower part of the a/w intercooler and the return to the storage tank coming from the top pipe. It would work either way. The pump will not pump through the tank though:) --make sure you keep prime on the pump--mount it low. These magnetic drive pumps do not draw worth a damn--they pump ok though.

FazdaRX_8 07-24-2012 12:24 AM

I vote a bigger filter too

you can see it's mounted as low as possible behind the oil cooler. which is inlet vs outlet though? the top or bottom? i have the red/white marine pump that you have.

the one i have barely fits under there though. what'd you use?

olddragger 07-24-2012 07:50 PM

cut the top half off the front support bar--then you have much more room.
I cant remember what the inlet/outlet side of the pump is. mine is mounted in the space between the drivers side oil cooler and the plastic stuff.

FazdaRX_8 07-24-2012 10:00 PM

I have a long K&N that tapers to a smaller Diameter

lol i couldnt remember either! i'll test it later but mine is mounted in the same spot as yours.

i'll have a look at cutting that bar too but I'm not sure it's necessary

part number? did you cut the bar to fit it? or its the same diam as mine just longer?

FazdaRX_8 07-25-2012 08:45 PM

pretty sure its this one
Manufacturer: K&N
Part Number: RU-3130

its 3.5 inlet and over 9" long

no cutting, because its a cone it matches the area in there, as the space tapers down on the sides

dondo 07-26-2012 03:16 AM

thanks, I'll have a look.

dondo 07-26-2012 03:19 AM

actually that one is 7", this one is 9"

About time you finnished with Easy. You had him so long that he has forgotten that he does not need winter clothes in July.

He needs to look to see if my problem is that little electrical problem that you had. I won't keep him long so if you need him after your return from Japan, he should be thawed out by then.

Is the air better in the engine bay? I'm confused. Air is air. Except it's usually cooler outside the engine bay.

Not sure why you would not......cooler air outside the engine bay. I've run them inside and out side and the only down side to out side is when it rains. Of course it rarely rains in Vegas so...........

I think Erick found my idle problem but I can't be sure cuz he won't let me drive it yet :hahano:. Almost two years of idle problems and it comes down to a broken wire.

Dry is a good idea. I've oiled my maf a ton and the filter got wet once and dripped that red oil onto the bumper cover and stained the clear bra a bit which is annoying.

hey at least we're getting a boatload done and i'll be out of your hair soon enough. ;)

I can't get the page to load on their site. Did you find detailed specs anywhere?

olddragger 07-27-2012 07:46 PM

concerning k&n filters outside the engine bay--read some of eric meyers threads and how he lost an engine due to a K&n filter outside the engine bay picking up much more dirt and not filtering it etc. He stated KN filter inside the bay is ok because it doesnt suck up as much dirt.
K&n is not known for its filtering ability. Get a dry filter like aem.
Totally agree the air is cooler outside:)

+1 I couldn't find anything either.

olddragger 07-29-2012 09:11 AM

just cut that damn front bar ( half off the top) and you have plenty of room for a regular aem filter
Plus this.....https://www.rx8club.com/attachments/...cooler-001-jpg
https://www.rx8club.com/attachments/...cooler-001-jpg

the bigger air water cooler really helps, its only 1 1/2 inch thick and its not stacked on top of the a/c condensor. This + an outside dry air filter will knock the intakle charge temps down a good bit--i have seen 20-30F degrees difference in IAT temps and 15-20F difference on post intercooler temps ( after it is heat saturated)
