Zoom Zoom....
Caution indeed....
I think he is on intake manifold #4!
Charles Hill is working on some of this issues they've identified with running larger shots: Here's a recent thread.... https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/blew-up-another-manifold-165813/

I'm sure Ray will get right on it.

I would think the problem has to do with engine displacement. To us, a turbocharged RX8 reaching 400 rwhp is astonishing. But think about it. 400 whp isn't that much. In our tiny cars it is, but an engine producing ~500 bhp isn't that amazing these days. There are factory cars that run this much power under warranty. You're asking a 1.3L to gulp down a 120 shot?

We at BHR are working on getting a larger shot to work with the car. But at this time it's "baby steps"
I don't have an extra engine to donate to the cause. Manifolds are expensive enough.
When we can get the system reliable and safe, believe me you all will know about it.
In the mean time if anybody wants to go and try a bigger shot on their own ,,,, be my guest.

its not so much the engine displacement as it is the manifold. it seems that larger shots will backfire and ruin the manifold before you even pump enough to hurt the actuall engine.
the UMI is so complicated with all the different runners and valve systems there are lots of places for fuel and nitrous to get "lost" on the way to the chamber. make backfires easy
if i had a million dollars i would mess with direct port nitrous systems, with the nozzels tapped right by the intake ports, but i dont so i will have to wait and see what BHR solution to the problem is.

I agree that we have no idea what the limitations are regarding nitrous shot size are with the RX8. We know that much of the solution lies with altering the ignition and as CRH stated, it's something we're very aware of and have a plan of action on how to tackle it.
The challanges with Nitrous are the fact that you're not always dealing with a steady flow of gas, the fuel/nitrous controller is independent of the PCM and also the issues with liquid vs. air flowing through the intake.
Easy_E has been running a 75 shot with success however its been the product of multiple hours of street tuning and small steps. Right now it's not something that could be tackled with 2 or 3 calibration adjustments.
I'm looking into a Nitrous installation here within the next few months as well so we'll have yet another car to experiment with.
