Oh wow! That is a truly interesting concept!!! I can tell its a Reni LIM that has been modified to shorten the track and even out the height of all 6 runners but I have no idea about the UIM....or who made it....and why does it have a hole on the top as well as what looks like a small throttle body(could be a bypass valve) on the side? Perhaps its meant to work with a supercharger? or with a dual boost system? Please do explain....otherwise I will not be able to sleep tonight... :D

I am very intrigued...

Thanks for posting.

In an attempt to win the prize....It came from your car, right?

And I assume its for a custom supercharger install....

i wish Chris

Kevin is correct (i think he may have cheated )

it was on this car

and here is the SC that used to be attached to the IM

Its a roots- why they didn't try a twin screw we'll never know- and who knows maybe they did since they had done a turbo as well on a different car.

that is a bypass

and the intercooler

the piping to the intercooler was really short the straight from the SC into one side and right in to the SC on the other..

that IM was really well done. the secondary was cut into in the original section and they machined it back into the flange. kept the aux as well but the vdi was removed.

I like the stying of it, but the seam around it where it connects makes it look to "stuck on" then one whole piece.

you can blend that in fact if i ever get around to actually doing it ive talked to a aluminum fabricator guy i know who'll make one up for me, weld it on and blend it in for me (although i could do the grind and smoothing myself)

I do work in a sheetmetla shop and work wiht aluminum alot. I am wondering if i could take a stock hood and modify the "rotor" shape in the middle to make a functional opening that looks like this. Maybe when my project list gets shorter i will have to try it on a second hood.

there was a .au magazine article pre-rx-8 release that discussed the manifold options mazda tried out. they had pictures of the test manifolds. mazda tested many designs even plenum's and finally settled on the long smooth runners.

I can see how it would benefit a SC but would turbos and N/A really benefit? I can also see it causing problems with a MAF based system.
