I wouldn't trust anything but OE grade bolts for critical driveline components and those are $8-10 bucks a piece. Was more of a experience and trial anyways.

You took the time to do it right. So this should be a worth while experiment.

Been a busy week since getting back, within the last 7 days I finished up my skydiving jumps to get my A license. Picked up my new track toy (2015 STI) and have been breaking that in and prepping it. Finally getting around to getting the 8 back under its own wheels and its own power, mainly so I can just get it out of the garage and work on other things.
Motor went back in last night, got everything aligned and ready to finish up the front suspension tonight. Goal is to assemble the long block and bay tomorrow and have it out of the garage by the end of the day. Schedule it for a corner balance and alignment at the end of next week and call this project done, then on to the next segment Side note, first time doing it from the bottom and given the right equipment (lift) it is much easier, whole process from engine on the table to bolted onto the car took less than 20 minutes. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/839/2akq.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640.../842/lbyqk.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/845/rmws.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/837/whj1.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/841/fuv1.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/842/ezh7.jpg |
grats to all of that man. wish i could get some jumps in
|
I hate jumping out of Cessna's hence why I have taken 2 years to get my A, finally sucked it up last weekend and knocked out my remaining 6. Now just waiting on USPA to mail me my card!
|
you spray painted the transmission?
the first time you drive that in the drying rain and get all that fresh blackness dirty will make teh baby Geezus weep |
I did that over a year ago team, it holds up (somewhat). What is done is done, and in retrospect I would not do it again.

Anyone have any idea how bushing alignment would cause complications? PRessed my castor bushing in and it is off by about 10 degree's. From what I understand it will only hurt the longevity of the bushing and not much of anything else?
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/839/yh5d.jpg Bottom bushing is off, top is aligned properly. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...0/839/ggac.jpg |
The RX8 has special bushing inserts that limit deflection under load. You can see how the inserts on the outer edge need to align on the centerline in order for the deflection to be centered on them not just for load, but also as the control arm rotates during suspension movement.
Looks like they need a do-over ... |
Am I correct in that they will not effect drivability and alignment but will increase bushing wear and just shorten the lifespan?
Bushings are a one press, so if I remove the one thats off I will need to buy another one. Or I can use it as is and just expect its life to be shortened and have to replace it anyways just down the road? Correct? |
:dunno: I just buy a new control arm which not only comes with the bushings properly aligned, but a new, tight ball joint too
|
Already replaced it, now just waiting on some last minute parts and shooting for this weekend.
|
Finally under its own weight and power, no abnormal lights of feels. Now for the dreadfull height adjustment, then off to get aligned. A few items still to clean up (water temp gauge decided not to work anymore damn thermistor).
All in all another great build and experience (this one however I do not wish to ever have to do again). |
that's a nice engine bay..i tried to get my engine bay black out just how you have it...but it ended up bad..it became something else..:(
|
|
Will post more detailed pictures later, but got everything leveled and out of the garage last night. Alignment tomorrow, still deciding if its to low or not considering raising her a bit.
Now to clean :( |
that's why..i realized that you painted the engine bay..i guess i wont be able to do that since i don't have any garage..:(..nice and clean car
|
I wish I had a lift in my home garage...

Got this chassis/suspension build all wrapped up, very happy with the results and my new "stance". Couple last minute details over this week but all in all this is how it will stay this season. Already planning next winter's build. The rear sway comes into contact with the headlight level sensor on the arm so I had to adjust that bar upward quite a bit, considering it is the same from the factory I doubt it will matter.

holy Jesus. these days i don't come on this board very often, but i remember starting to read this thread quite a few times and never getting through it. anyway, just wanted to say it's quite impressive what you do. i have definitely taken away some inspirational tidbits for my 8. your car looks gorgeous.

Gets a +1 just for seeing it through, this forum is a wasteland for talking poop and never hearing from said poopster again. I can appreciate the comment about maybe never doing it again as it takes a lot of commitment, fortitude, and cash to see a serious project through to the end. Dreamers simply fall to the way side ...

Team,
I just hate bushings  I never want to press or see another one in my life, imagine having to press them all in like its a life saving operation and one small missed move will result in your fresh coating being trashed, it was miserable. I also do not envy anyone that deals with suspension took me 8 hours to set load, height, and sways. Most tedious task I have done to date. I still have a lot of plans for this car, interior and exterior still need to be done as well as more engine work over time, but with the addition to my new DD I am finding this car less and less appealing, its been a great 2 years but I think it is going to take a break for the next couple of months while I work on a car that is actually moderately fast. |
Finished up my last bit of tuning last night, AFR are set at 11.8-12.2 at WOT with great consistency and dead on cruise and idle logs.
Going for my Dyno this afternoon, finally be able to see what this thing puts down after all invested into it. A little cumbersome but I like everything on one page, 4th WOT log. Still pulling 260g/sec! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...673/RjHIJ2.jpg |
Hopefully you run 10's or 11's.
