Any idea on the whiney sound before I start the car, thats the one I don't recognize.

Although its been about 10 months so Its probably a normal sound I just don't remember it.

FYI this was a hot start, but it makes the sound regardless. Its not the TB, ABS or air pump I do know that.

9krpmrx8 07-18-2013 10:42 AM

That is normal start up check procedure, I believe it's the throttle body.

Carbon8 07-18-2013 10:45 AM

IRC the TB sound is not constant, its checks position and movement and then stops. this is a constant sound, even with the engine on it is still present just not really noticeable over the CAI

shadycrew31 07-18-2013 11:55 AM

The TB is always humming before starting the car, it'll hum for hours until the battery dies.

Carbon8 07-18-2013 11:57 AM

Figured it was normal, Just couldn't remember.

So first day driving it and with less than 10 miles on the new motor, I have my first ticket

Either a record or a great kickoff to this season.

Did you tell him you were breaking in a new engine?

That excuse worked for me once.

Carbon8 07-18-2013 12:41 PM

I was granny driving, he complained about my exhaust.

My response was "I barely put 5,000 miles a year on this car, I am not changing it"

He gave me a warning and then said "Nice Car"

Yep the sound is normal... Mine is just as loud.

I have had this happen too... but you got lucky with a warning.
Cop pulled me over for 11 over, after I sign the ticket he proceeds to say " really nice car man, what all you have done to it" I gave him an eat shit look and said "enough".. He said "ok" and walked away....

Carbon8 07-18-2013 12:58 PM

Ill take the tickets, Im not changing my car. Besides I know almost all the D/A's around and they get dropped or turn into 40 dollar parking tickets. I could care less! The only time I change is I put my CAT on once a year for inspection.

Usbraz1 07-18-2013 03:52 PM

You should do a post with all the parts and cost, awesome build btw!!

Carbon8 07-18-2013 06:04 PM

You don't want to know the cost

The more I look at it the more depressed I become!

When you own a turbo double everything....

Carbon8 07-18-2013 07:36 PM

Ill post it up tomorrow it's on my computer at the office, this build will rival FI.

Carbon8 07-19-2013 07:50 AM

Round 2

Its noticeable more towards the end, it sounds like a trashed pilot bearing but only does it when in gear and under load. Going to take my syncro saver off later tonight and see if they are just vibrating against each other. When I push the shifter down slightly the noise disappears.

I have narrowed it down to either the syncro saver or the axial flow shifter, which I noticed has a lot more backlash on the s2 than on my s1 version which might be coming into play also.
Looking for some outside opinions on this one.

Also took her for a 250 mile cruise out to the lake yesterday, A/F seems lean at 14.2:1 I did see some spikes around 11:1 also. Not sure if this is normal.

I know their are a lot of different break in procedures, I am basically just taking her easy until 500 miles, then oil change, then will continue normal (not aggressive) driving untill 1000 miles. Then I will consider it broken in. At that point in time I assume its good enough to go for a dyno day. Considering that I have a lot of miles planned this weekend I might be able to get a pull or two by the end of next week!

For those that asked for it, hears everything I consider to be into mechanical only.

Note some stuff was added before this build (exhaust and clutch).

Now show me a straight face and tell me I couldn't have gone SC for the same or cheaper! :rollingla

did you miss the memo about never going full ret@rd?

Carbon8 07-19-2013 09:04 AM

Not following, this build does rival an FI for cost. I was aware of that from day one and could care less. Not sure what you are getting at other than an unnecessary statement.

dannobre 07-19-2013 09:15 AM

You paid $620 for ignition wires :) ?

Carbon8 07-19-2013 09:19 AM

Haha, bad descriptions. LS2 coils, wires and NGK plugs was what that was for to be specific!

9krpmrx8 07-19-2013 09:35 AM

Did you get your series II transmission brand new?

Carbon8 07-19-2013 09:45 AM

Yup, By the time I found one used, paid for shipping. then realized it probably needs a rebuild. Then realized Mazda can't rebuild a trans fro Sh*t. It was the best option. If you are asking about the price.

If you are referencing the video, My only concern is 1.5 quarts seems low for this trans, the fill plug is not even halfway up it and you can fill threw the shifter. Seems contradictory!

9krpmrx8 07-19-2013 09:52 AM

Yeah i was referring to the price. I was hoping you didn't pay that for a used one.

Carbon8 07-19-2013 10:01 AM

Yeah, No.....

That's the price brand new with shipping from CA to NY

shadycrew31 07-19-2013 11:37 AM

I only buy used parts, except for engine parts and turbo parts.

Carbon8 07-19-2013 01:04 PM

transmission connected to the engine, thats an engine part
