Robert,
If you're goin to be on the Bayamon area please take a look on the T76

A question for the P.R. guys(Robert and Manuel):

Did you find that the RX-8 drive axles' weak link is the center bar like on the RX-7 axles? I am wondering if the CV joints, themselves, are good but we need stronger shafts. From what I read in this thread it sounds like you are using the stock CV's but made stronger shafts. If that is the case I may be able to quickly offer a rear axle upgrade for the RX-8 in case any one stateside would like them.

Thanks for any info/advice you have.

Hello My Friend'
Yes one's of the weaker's link is the center bar between the tranny and the rearend you must have to weld 4' x 1/4"x 4.5" steel bar across the link bar with this mods youre avoid the wheel hoops during hard aceleration. the othe mods is increase the diameter of axles shaft to 52mm from 4243 tools steel. i broke the stock ones at the first drive in the streets.at the moment with the stock CV's we have no found any problems at the moments. But i still making mod.s if i found any
problem i'll do post them it and the solution, i using the car for every day drive to work and for fun after the works.
Thanks

Oh, you're referring to the PPF as well as the axle shafts. I am working on an aluminum PPF but if higher h.p./torque levels become more common I guess I'll have to go back to making a PPF out of Titanium. A bit costly but you know the axiom.... I found a larger rear swaybar to help control wheelhop but I am nowhere near the power you are making.

On the matter of the axles; do you think that Titanium shafts would help? Maybe I just need to get REAL serious about these things I want to make

Thanks for the response and info.

No, I haven't. I did look at the Driveshaft Shop's website. They don't have anything for the 8 yet but they did talk about the 7's shaft's. DSS says they use stock CV's but replace the shaft. With that being the case and your experience with the 8 supporting that idea, the 8 sounds like it only needs the shaft replaced for levels above, say, 400 h.p. or so. What mildly surprises me is that the factory rear diff/case is doing okay so far. SR Motorsports led Sport Compact Car magazine to write that the factory is "known to fail at power levels above stock". That was in last April's issue. I wrote SCC mag and corrected them on that error, and a couple others, and they printed my letter. I just didn't realize at that time just how strong the driveline actually is. I have been quite confident in Mazda's engineering but now I am really looking forward to driving again and pushing the envelope a bit more. Perhaps p.m. me on some of that help Robert talks about. I would be flattered and honored to pass on whatever it is I know.

Ya know how much money I could make with a 20B in my car racing in my town(Detroit area)?

R+M, I am going to call my machinist tomorrow and talk about making some really kick-*** axles, or at least the shafts, for you guys. I think we can come up with something pretty exotic and bulletproof for you. With that larger diameter(52MM) how much suspension clearance did you lose?

Un-FREAKING-Believable!

I came in late on this thread (been busy). I was just over at Rick's Rotary on Friday. He has a Cosmo with a 20B (Right hand drive and all). He was guessing that his stock unit might have 340 HP. But, you guys (Manuel and Robert).. Wow! I'm speechless. You guys are living the dream. Keep it up!

Bob

Charles,

Robert we like to see pictures of your aluminum PPF, we are interested on see it and know the prices................let me know if you can make it harder.

Talking about the axles Robert don't see problems using the car on daily drive but if you go to run the car on the drag you can't launch the car from the hole,
Robert all ready break a few axles. If you can make something bulletproof we are very interested! Let me know the price and extimated time..............

We really don't understand when you talk about how much suspension clearance we lose,
Please, can you be more especific?

thanks

Manuel
