Talking 29K to go; Somebody stop me.....

I have a 2007 "base" 8; still under warranty, I am told, till 36K.
Supercharging is my present thought (Pettit Racing's SC), only because I have never liked the thought of obstructing the exhaust the way turbochargers work.
Presently saving my pennies...

The reason I am thinking Pettit is the very flat torque curve and the low rpm "start" of the HP.

My questions;
What is the max rpm of the compressor used in this kit? (my RX "beeps" at me daily and I wonder about what sustained rpm the compressor can live with.)
What is the over/under drive ratio of the Pettit kit? (is it changable?)
Is the compressor itself rebuildable?
What life span can I expect from this type of compressor at the 5-8 PSI of the Pettit kit? (If I do not "f" around with the drive ratio for it)

Another question, has anyone made a "blow-through" force induction, to compress the air then cool it with a spray of fuel after the intercooler? (Just a thought...)

Last, and maybe most important, will Pettit still offer this kit installation next year when my warranty runs out?

Are you debating if this is the route to take, or have you already made up your mind and are asking "kicking the tire" type questions? The answer to my question will greatly change the answers you'll receive in this thread.

Why not as Pettit that question? They would know more than we would.

I am debating the issue; reliability and survivability are key, more so than shear power.
It will still be a daily drive vehicle.

I have also seen the remote turbo thread here and I like that idea too.

Seems as though the Pettit is the easiest install compared to a turbo and also you wouldn't have to worry about a waste gate failing or anything like that. Simpler design and much more fun than stock. It also looks really nice with the intake manifold that replaces the plastic one.

I think you should have a factory warranty to 60k miles, Mazda extended the warranty to 5 years or 60k whichever comes first. Thats the warranty I have and I'm in Florida as well. It doesn't look like Pettit is going to discontiue the SC, they actually still have a higher powered one in the works.

As far as obstructing the exhaust, you won't be doing that with a turbo, you'll be pushing out much more exhaust than stock the more air in the more air must come out. The torque curves of some of the Turbo's are pretty kickass as well and most of the time higher than SC's.

If you want ease and less tuning SC, Wanting to modify and someday make as much HP as the motor can stand, then Turbo. Call Pettit for all your other questions. You can goto the https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=132628 thread to learn more about all of them.

Either way you go you'll love your Rotary even more.

Lol, ah screw the warranty... I now have 21k on mine and am ready for Forced induction. I figure I drove it for a while and now trust nothing is defective from the factory so its time for fun. If I break anything it will suck but its all part of the game. Just gotta hope its not the motor, but if it is I think I will go with a 20b and sell my turbo kit off. One guy on here bought his car new and never even drove it before putting a Greddy turbo kit on it from day 1 . He's got cohones, but I am happy with what I am doing. I just started purchasing stuff 2 weeks ago. You can still get things like suspension and that won't void your motor warranty.

They did answer my questions.....
Pettit installed a Stage 2 kit on February 19, 2008. (Where did I get 2006 on the first edit post?)

Woot!
