I just installed the basic GROM one with a headphone jack. I have an android phone and it works like a charm, and was only $60 bucks. I wrote up an install guide as well.

my other car is a 787b
So I've had the XCarLink for four years in my 2008 Rx-8 sport with my iPhone 3GS and now iPhone 4. Its been great.
Originally I installed the box in the empty cavity where the 6-disk in dash goes. Everything connected via Bluetooth. I powered the iPhone with a charger connected to the power plug in the center console. Simple but clean.
ADP was 95% flawless. Yes you do hear some audio compression (thats part of the BT spec). I did experience a few connection breakdowns but turning BT off and back on on the phone fixed the issue. I have a feeling this was due to putting the box in the center of the dash surrounded by the metal cage of the headunit (faraday cage effect).
I just reinstalled the box in the center console as well as wiring up the dock connector and the handsfree microphone (Mounted to the immediate left of the red LCD display screen in the dash). Early tests are very positive - audio is clear and callers are surprised I'm talking using a handsfree. I probably won't be using it often, but since I paid for the feature I might as well use it.
Audio up and down works on the steering wheel as before but changing track is limited to Music playlists only (so far - I should read the instructions again). As I mostly listen to Pandora for music and Downcast for podcasts I find its not a burden to press next or back on the iPhone instead.
I ordered a phone mount and when its installed I'll get some pictures up and provide a writeup if there is interest.
tl;dr: XCarLink worked as expected for me with iPhone A2DP in my 2008 Rx-8 Sport. I like it and would recommend it.
[edit] Yikes this is an old thread. Sorry for bringing it back from the dead. Just wanted to say thanks and give my feedback.

9.50 Firmware
I was wondering if i can still use this but just use the auxilary input. I dont really need the ipod controls. So im wondering if this would still work just for the aux input.
