When i install my xcarlink my cd player stops operating and you cannot select the CD player, when i remove it the CD player starts working again, i tried this twice and still the same outcome.
It seems like a electrical short. Has anyone else experienced these problems when installing. I dont want to keep trying cause i dont want to damage the CD player.
cheers

I have an 07 rx8 with the 9.82 head unit firmware, 6 disc changer, and bose audio. I would like to confirm that this device will work with my radio before purchasing. Has anyone used this device with the 9.82 firmware?

All the iPhone accessories have to be licensed by Apple. I think XCarLink has the right circuitry to charge iPhone 3G but it wasn't licensed. Hence the "incompatible accessory" warning.
However since it charges fine, it doesn't bother me anymore.

Hmm.. My 3G seems to charge ok, but there's something it's not happy with in the connection or else the iphone wouldn't be complaining about an incompatible accessory. I know the iphones had a slightly different charging wiring than the older ipods, even though the connector itself is the same... there's a voltage and pinout difference of somesort, which you can trick with some $40 adapter if I recall correctly, but I'm not looking to have yet another adapter on this thing. Maybe that's what the issue is, either way yeah - the Bluetooth is ok, but if you need to charge it and a call comes in, the fun audio extravaganza begins

Just installed it, was not a problem at all, works great (I can even switch songs with my steering wheel controls in non-playlist mode!)
Thanks for an awesome product.

Switching songs works for me in both playlist and non-playlist mode. Infact "random" song feature from the console also works

$95? Holy Crap! For the hassle of upgrading the firm ware, and the limitations of the xcaraudio link you may as well spend some extra cash and get a double din unit.

Those that use the bluetooth feature how is the talk quality when you talk to someone.. very clear? So..so..? poor? Does it come with a mic or does it use the phones mic. Can I get away with it in my holster or pocket?
I've been driving a Mazda 3 rental and its equiped with the bt radio. And I have been loving it. Now I want it for the 8....

I love the bluetooth kit. It came with an external mic that I've routed it near the driver side door and it looks very clean. The quality is awesome. Infact I think it has some noise cancelling built in - a lot of times my wife doesn't know if I'm driving while I'm talking to her over the bluetooth!
Also, I love the fact that you can stream music over the bluetooth and the switch from music to phone call and vice versa is seamless.
I would highly recommend this.

in my 04 rx8, I installed a mp3 disk player and Im tired of burning many disks. can I connect this adapter to the oem mp3 player. If it can, can I connect my G1 phone to this adapter?

This adapter connects to the external CD player port on the factory HU .. I'm not sure if your mp3 disk player is different from the factory HU or was integrated in the factory HU itself .. if latter then you can surely use this adapter ..
as far as connecting to G1 I guess you can use the bluetooth option, or AUX cable.

I just got a 3g ipod touch to replace my dead video ipod (along with a Griffin charge converter) and so far just about everything seems to work ok with the Audiolink. However, when I look through tracks or try to do anything else on the ipod, the music will spontaneously pause.
Anyone else have a similar issue or know what's going on?

Damn, my firmware on the deck is v9.53. Is there a DIY to upgrade the firmware so I can use the AudioLink?
Having to pay $95 to upgrade the firmware (plus shipping both ways) so I can use this thing is major pain in the ***!

When I called our local mazda dealership that we have relationships with and asked you would have thought I asked for a fuel efficient rotary. I got a bunch of funny looks and no real answers. As far as they were concerned it was not possible at all and the only way to get the ipod adapter working was to replace the head unit.

I got similar responses from my Mazda customer service and that is when I started exploring options online, coz I couldn't believe no one is using their iphones on RX8's.
This forum was quite useful in that regard.

What about the MP3 kit? I've got an iPhone 3GS and I'm thinking about getting that unit instead and routing a regular USB -> iPhone connector for power; bluetooth should take care of everything else.
Thoughts?

I've searched everywhere and can't find any documented DIY. I'm pretty sure the HU has to be taken apart to get to the chip, removed and re-flashed with new firmware (or replaced), seeing as they want $95 and you must ship the HU to them. I was hoping you can upgrade the firmware via CD.

Alright, took the plunge and ordered the USB/MP3 adapter with Bluetooth from RPM. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow and install on Saturday. I'll give a full report when done.
