190ps..... you in Europe? Cambridge, England?

Mazda started producing the RX8 in 2004. Though they were made and sold in 2003, the official year of your car is 2004. Kind of dumb, I know.

The website for the XCarLink states:
NOTE for 2004-2005 Mazda RX-8: The factory headunit's firmware revision must be 9.55 or greater. The unit will not work on earlier firmware revisions or with 9.81 or 10.01. To find out which revision your Mazda RX-8 has, make sure the radio (FM) is turned on, then press and hold "TEXT." Then, also press and hold "1" at the same time for a few more seconds. The LCD should then report your firmware version.
So odds are your firmware is below 9.55 in a 2004 unless a newer headunit has been swapped in prior to your ownership. If you check your firmware using the method above and see that it is indeed below 9.55, I'd just be happy it works at all. Forget the display and count your blessings you have a working iPod connection.

I have an xcarlink, the display cannot show the name/artist of the song. Depending on what your playing your music from, the display just shows a bunch of numbers. If your using the aux-in cable or bluetooth it'll just be a useless timer that keeps counting.

If your playing music off a usb memory stick , it'll show the folder number (the xcarlink emulates a cd changer, so each folder is represented as a cd) and next to that will be the useless timer.

Hope this helps.

I'm assuming the euro models got the fancy digital tuners because anything in the US 2004-2005 era is not going to do anything beyond am/fm frequency, disc and track # without some serious customization similar to what the goodbox did for us in the ODB2 monitoring space.
