Why do dealers not understand how to work on car audio?

So, my stock 2004 Bose 6 disc bit it big time, every time i turn the car on it just clicks and i cant listen to any cds or eject or load. Apparently a common problem which is mostly unfixable i have read.

Anyways, I have an extended warranty that is the highest class ("high tech") or whatever, so I went to my local dealer who has never done me wrong and asked if it would be under warranty to get a new one if it was unfixable. He said they would have to take a look at it first, so i scheduled an appointment and dropped it off. When I came back for it, they informed me that is was indeed dead, and a new one would cost $380 or so and that it was NOT under warranty (this is ok because i didn't really expect it, was just hoping to save some cash).

So anywho, they somehow charged me $55 for looking at it (labor) but i just wanted my car back to get to work so i paid it (not really much cash anyways) and got my keys and left. Upon starting the car, i turned on the radio........nothing, i was unable to get any stations at all, the 6 disc was dead, and i have no aux in, i was using an ipod FM adapter. Hurrah for a silent drive home, least i got to hear the delicious engine sounds :D

I am going to call them tomorrow because the service dept was closed when i picked it up, but they obviously forgot to reattach the antenna cable to the back, and I have taken it apart many many times so I figured I would just pop it out and reconnect it. Easy task, except somewhere in the process of the dealer doing it, they lost a screw and replaced it with some sort of bolt that they like, spot welded into the metal thing underneath the steering wheel, making it incredibly difficult to get to the secret bolt behind that head unit. After I finally got it off, I was right, antenna cable sitting there just chillin'.

I took advantage of this time to open up the 6 disc changer since there was no warranty and i wanted my cds out of it, tried fixing it, it's def dead, haha. got my cds tho.

So, when i call them, think I should ask for my $55 back? or maybe thats how much they charge for the bolt they put in my car? Only problem is that I can't really PROVE that it was fucked up since i fixed it when i got home, well, i guess i could unfix it, but then i'd have to wait for those idiots to "fix" it again and prolly screw something else up.

ARG!!!

metra kit here i come!

I bet you could complain and get a free oil change out of it. I wouldn't expect more then that.

If there is actual weld marks or something you could show them, you MIGHT be able to get something in return. Other then that, it's not happening.

Since owning my 8, I've been to my dealer I think 3 times. And every time I leave PISSED. I hate dealers.

yeah, i called them to today and they basically said "oh, that's not something we would do, it was probably like that before."

..........i KNOW it wasn't like that, and they just say they're correct. guess i take pics of every inch of my car next time i take it to them?

at any rate, anyone know if the single DIN metra kit can be changed if i upgrade to a double din in the future, like pull out the pocket and wala, double din?

I donno. Maybe someone with the Metra kit will chime in.

But if I had to make a call, I would say no. If it was that easy, Metra would just sell one kit for everyone. (Which they DO do on some other vehicles) Vice having two separately stocked kits and part numbers.

For reference, any Metra kit that begins with "95" is double-din and beginning with "99" is single-din.
