Who is interested in what type of box?

I have been getting a flood of messages and questions asking me to build boxes. I have no problems with this. Currently the only single repeatable project I am working on will be the custom 8" box between the rear seats. Since I am making molds of these I can fairly easily duplicate them and have consistent results. If anyone is interested in any other types of boxes that they think I should offer, I'd love to hear the opinions. Here is the way that I was thinking about doing them. BTW Since forum rules state that I can not solicit anything here I can not list any prices publicly. PM me for details.

1) 8" Box designed to blend in with the interior of the car that adds low end extension. Not a boomers type of enclosure and not the cheapest box here by a long shot.

2) Single 10" wedge box. Ported or sealed. Simple design built around you're woofer specs. Finished off in plain black carpet or trunk liner.

3) Single 12" wedge box. Same as above.

4) Dual 10" box. Same as above but sealed only.

5) Custom applications please call me.

Since I competed nationally for years I can also aid in any system design there as well.

Please understand I am no longer in the industry and this is not a business. I am merely helping out others with what I can do.

Anyways, some feedback would be appreciated as to how many are interested in any of the above styles. I would like to only see serious inquiries and not have this turn into a big questions and answers page about what you have. PM me for those types of details.

I'm definitely interested in the 8" ported box between the rear seats. I sent you a PM.

I really like the first one, the custom 8" box. I could even build the majority of the basic carpentry, but theintegration of course I would feel better about just buying stuff from ya.

Rotary,

How much airspace is available in the 8 inch enclosure?
Is the enclosure going to be ported or sealed?

Ported or sealed. Good for 1-8" sub up to about .75 cu. ft.

I'm really curious to hear the 8" box, but I'm looking @ getting the 10. Is one 8 really going to be enough bass?

spdspappy - An installer at the shop 'Houston Car Stereo' was very pleasently suprised at the performance of a single JL Audio 8W7 subwoofer installed in a ported enclosure.

There are some good tutorials out on on the JL Audio web site for those interested. http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/

I've never heard a system that had 8's in it. The only systems I've ever built have been 10's or 12's. Not saying that an 8 can't sound good, I've just never heard one set up that has.

I've heard a single 6 inch in a bandpass enclosure that'll stain your trousers. All size jokes aside, there's a fair amount of physics involved, but I probably wouldn't attempt anything beyond a standard manufacturer's spec enclosure myself.

In our Expert class World Champion Dodge Intrepid, we have 3 Rockford 15's. For competition judging we turn them completely off! The subs that we won with were 4 Focal 5" (yes 5"!!!) subs in the top of the dash, 2 on each side. The successor to that vehicle, a PT Cruiser changed everything. We had 8-5" Focal woofers under the front seats firing forward. You couldn't tell where the bass was coming from. The 3-18"s in that vehicle also stayed off for judging. Don't underestimate the power of a small speaker when done properly.

Rotary - I paid a visit to Bo at Expressive Audio on Saturday to talk about those Lunar Amps run in the PT Cruiser you are talking about. It seems like those amps are extremely capable of doing either SPL or DB with no problems. After looking at the specs from Lunar, I am a little confused at what amp would be the best to drive a pair of 3 ohm JL Audio 10w7. Any idea?

The Lunar will easily run 3 ohm mono. I don't care what the spec sheet says. I know the designer and they can do much better than that. FWIW: We had some customers that could blow any amp up. In 2 years Lunar only had 1 known failure! It was fixed and returned within a week. If you really want to get crazy with the Lunar stuff, check out their class A amps. They can easily run 1 ohm mono and probably much less.

Do you happen to have a picture of this? Thanks.

That box was not completed... it looks like the project is stalled.
A picture of the half-done stage is here: https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=15772
I was also interested in that box (as probably other people too) but by now, I all but gave up on this completely...

I am still the first customer for this box.

I have given Rotary all the necessary pieces to make this work and I am still waiting on it. I have never seen that picture before but that headrest triangle for the port is mine.

I think they got sidetracked into making a custom dash piece for the navigation system.

Patient as always...

Sorry John. You're right I did get sidetracked and sort of forgot about it. I have done some work here and there on it though. In all reality if I can ever get 1 entire day free, I could get it done. The hard part is finding that day. I have also decided that yours will be alone in the world and will be the only one I am building. Sorry guys. It's taking me the better part of a year to get one done. I don't want to let anyone else down.

Anyone put two 12" subs in their RX yet?

It's part of the system I've got in my 626 right now and when I pick up my '05 RX, I would LUV to be able to put those in there somehow...

Damn the trunk space, who needs that anyways? (<---It's why I've got an Eddie Bauer in the garage... :-)
