Where can I mount a microphone?

Hello there - I've just bought an RX8, and very nice it is too. I have a satnav device which also acts as a bluetooth headset for my mobile phone (it's the TomTom Go 910) and I'm now wondering where I can mount the microphone for it. In my last car I just tugged off the plastic cover on the door pillar and poked the wires behind it, leaving the microphone pleasantly close to my head, but I was just about to give the plastic a good hard tug when I noticed it said "AIRBAG" all over it.

So rather than risk an extremely embarassing accident, I thought I'd come and ask here. Can I put anything under that trim?

Any help appreciated,

Chris

You can remove the A-pillar cover without any issue and mount the wires under there. See this.

Superb, many thanks. I did search before posting but I was clearly using the wrong terms! I've just installed it now with no problems at all, apart from a brief few minutes where I wasn't entirely sure I could get the thing on again...

Yes, the upper plastic fastener thingy is a bit tricky to re-engage. Just have to be sure to set it to the proper position and not to turn it when putting the cover back. Apart from that, it's easy.

Glad it worked.

Mine sits on top of my steering column. Easier to get the mic there than to rip the whole dash apart or finagle a mic through gauge clusters.

I run mine up to the sun visor - Have it mounted on the edge facing down towards me. For now it works great, but really considering to put it by the gauges like I have seen others do...

It does feel like a lil deja vu. Almost word for word.

You don't need to remove the pillar just tuck them with a flathead screwdriver it's what I did

I was able to hook it up on behind the rear-view mirror, on the post that the mirror hangs on. Took the cover off the wire going up into the headliner and snaked the wire through there. Can't even see it from inside the car.

This is where I mounted my Mic. So easy to get it up there. Use double sided tape and run the cable out of the left side of the dash. It is rather flexible so it is easy to run the cable out of that side, up the column and over.

This is where I have my ipod running to. This is the front-ish compartment on the center console.
